There are so many helpful tips that we use to get around on ETS a little bit more easily. If you have any tips you use, we want to share them. Send us a description and photo/video to any of our social media accounts.

ETS has officially retired paper tickets, but don't let yours go to waste. Until March 31, 2026, you can swap unused paper tickets 1-for-1 for the new tickets.

Once you've made the switch, just tap the new ticket on the green validators!

Edmonton’s BRT has to be in exclusive lanes 75% of the time, but we will have no idea if this actually results in improved reliability and speed because major congestion points could be skipped in favour of prioritizing car traffic

Most people know you can text 31100 for bus times, but almost nobody uses the β€˜SAVE’ feature. You can actually give your stops nicknames like β€˜HOME’ or β€˜WORK.’ One word, one text, and you’re in the know.

what we still need to see

Edmonton’s BRT is off to a good start, but there is a long way to go before we know that the tens of thousands of people who are going to be using these routes aren’t going to be sitting in traffic on what is supposed to be rapid transit.

We need to make sure that bus lanes are planned where they are necessary, not where they are easy. Places like Downtown and the University deserve high-quality bus infrastructure, even if it means significantly reducing space for cars on a few of the areas’ many arterials.

Right now, most of Edmonton’s bus lanes only operate for part of the day. Transit riders who don’t conform to the regular 9-5 workday shouldn’t be punished for it, 24/7 lanes are a necessity.

Lanes aren’t enough either, especially along streets with frequent intersections, making sure that buses never see a red light means that riders can be sure their bus will be there when they need it, and that they won’t miss their connection.

Here are some things that we want to see, to make sure that our BRT network ends up being "actually good"

Edmonton has committed to 75% bus lanes on brt

Many bus rapid transit systems around Canada don’t actually prioritize buses. Saskatoon’s BRT network will only see dedicated lanes for 3.5km of the 38km network. Calgary’s MAX network skips dedicated lanes on most main streets and in Downtown.

By committing to 75% bus lanes, Edmonton’s BRT network is set up to actually get buses moving on the parts of our network that see the most delay.

why not 100%?

We shouldn’t need to settle for β€œbetter than Saskatoonβ€œ, our LRT system has 100% dedicated lanes, why can’t our BRT system too?

Not committing to a fully separated BRT network gives the city some flexibility to run the BRT on provincial freeways, or reduce costs on low-traffic sections of the network.

However, it also means that some of the most congested intersections could be skipped in favour of prioritizing drivers. We don’t want to see buses going really fast on one street, only to get stuck waiting at a red light, or behind a bunch of cars turning left.

While this is a good step in avoiding some of the mistakes other BRT networks have fallen into, it isn't enough to make sure our buses don't get stuck in traffic.

I am far from being alone using transit in the off peak. Lots of people with me on buses & trains as I navigate multiple modes to go to appointments on a day off mid-week, daytime. πŸš‰πŸšŒπŸš

Sometimes getting your arc card out is annoying, but you don't always have to do it. If placed right, tapping on through a wallet or glove works just as well, plus then you don't have to get your hands cold

The benefit of BRT is that it can be built quickly and affordably. We CANNOT let the city leave its bus rapid transit planning sitting for years, as riders stay stuck in traffic

Admin says parts of the system could be operational by 2031 if funded this budget cycle. let's get it done

They are going to do both the low-floor LRVs for the Valley Line West, and the high-floor LRVs for the Capital and Metro Lines. I think that some of these will be new designs for Edmonton!

Edmonton uses Flexities for the Valley Line SE, these will be high-floor LRVs for the Capital and Metro lines made by Hyundai-Rotem

This does not guarantee the seating layout for the new trains, but the information will be provided to Hyundai-Rotem as the complete the design and manufacturing of the new trains

Get ready for new trains in 2029 and 2030!

The Hybrid layout (second on the previous post) was by far the preferred option, increasing the width of walking areas between seats, while facing all the seats in the same direction rather than facing each other

We also have have some idea what the seating layouts could look like with the results of the city’s LRT seating survey

2 new options were put against the current layout, changing the seat direction and the width of standing room between seats
