Excited to share the first paper of 2026 from the Beauchemin Lab! Congratulations to Daniel, Nicholas, Sterling and Huy for this contribution! The report describes an alkylation/reduction sequence to yield tertiary amines with no overalkylation possible. @sterlingrenzoni.bsky.social
I'm now amused at the thought of sports reporters going office to office, interviewing PI's about late stage grant proposal status π€£
I lost my wallet on a city bus in Quebec City during CSC2019. I reported it to the transit lost and found (conveniently close to the convention centre) but was extremely skeptical of ever getting it back. Got a call the next day, it had been turned in and nothing was missing. Small miracles!
Splenic infarction from complications from mono (conveniently in 2nd year PhD π )

Fantastic news! Congratulations! π
Congratulations Christine! πππ
Congratulations!
I was sitting here, pondering deeply which chemistry professor was a dead ringer for Hans Gruber π
I checked the temperature last night as I was drifting off to sleep. It was 40 degrees with humidex last night at 8 minutes past midnight π±
Yes, very interested!
I went to a wonderful session this am on lab safety at CSC! I asked facilitators if I could share the notes and they said absolutely: please enjoy, from our discussion on several safety incidents, what could have been worse, better, and what we can learn! #labsafety #chemsky #realtimechem
The Beauchemin Group at uOttawa is ready for #csc2025! Five students will be sharing the latest breakthroughs in the group on the synthesis of nitrogen-containing molecules. Stop by the posters, attend the talks and say hi!
Picked up my #CSC2025 badge - different feeling to attend a national conference in your hometown! Looking forward to an incredible week of exciting chemistry, catching up with old friends and hopefully making some new ones as well! Welcome to Ottawa, everyone!
Parts of me hope that this occurred years ago, other parts hope for more recent! π
I was scrolling mindlessly but then I spotted a PEI flag and snapped to attention! I have limited mutuals here that I could have guessed it was!
Grad students and postdocs: sign-up now to present your research at the 9th Virtual Symposium! Deadline is Monday March 24, 2025. Student speakers will have the opportunity to receive feedback from a tailored panel. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
@yannickgeiger.bsky.social and I are jointly looking to hire a postdoc in Strasbourg @unistra.fr with a strong background in electrochemistry to develop a new concept for CO2 fixation. The 18-month contract is funded by Syensqo. Start date as soon as possible.

Happy 2025, everyone! To start it on the right foot, Beyond Benign & IUPAC CHEMRAWN are launching a new webinar series! Join us for the first session and learn from @chemashlee.bsky.social about MOFs & their potential to tackle urgent world needs! π± Register here: bit.ly/4a5UQep #GreenChemistry
Iβm so excited to share my groupβs first pre-print! This is a collaboration with @johnswierk.bsky.social and @japanetier.bsky.social.
Hereβs your reminder that great science comes from PUIs, too π

True. However, if you drop this kind of joke and someone gets it, you know you've found your people π
This is the kind of niche humour I live for π
The methodology enables straightforward synthesis of typically challenging amides, as well as a variety of complex unsymmetrical ureas. We're really excited by these results - stay tuned for more developments in 2025!
The Beauchemin Group finished out 2024 with the publication of an exciting new area of research. An amide linchpin reagent (a masked O-isocyanate) has been developed thanks to the dedicated efforts of excellent PhD students Bhavana Uppalapati and Maxime Aubry. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
Fun little tidbit from the paper: In hydroamination of substrate 2p to give 4p, the equilibrium constant between N-oxide and N-OH is only 0.056; but the addition of Os catalyst to selectively reduce the N-oxide shifts the equilibrium towards N-oxide, and translates into 83% isolated yield!
The Beauchemin Group was delighted to publish this work in late 2024. PhD student Huy Ly, with undergrad Hala Almeneim, did incredible work! Thanks to Jeff Keillor for support in kinetic analysis. Several products reported had not before been accessed by hydroamination! pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
