π³This week we planted native #BlackPoplar at Vicar Water Country Park in #Nottinghamshire. They offered a place for 8 saplings which will hopefully grow, so that we can take further cuttings and distribute the tree across the county!π³

Landscape ecological restoration. It can be done but we need to get a move on. This is Carrifran where the sheep were removed to allow this native woodland to take over.

Wood Anemones are starting to appear in Portland Park, taking advantage of early spring light before the canopy closes. Always feels like a turning point in the season when these show up.

YOU ME US
Two people, in nature, in love. There's something quite sublime about connecting in outdoors, under the stars, and it's a special treat if you get the Northern Lights.
Even though I convey a lot of space in my paintings, I also like to convey a kind of love that thrives in serenity.

On Tuesday we were at #Alverton disused railway, clearing the scrub for the #GrizzledSkipper. We focused on removing saplings and exposing the rubble associated with railways, exposing Creeping Cinquefoil. We also planted some to help attract the butterfly to the area.

A sign of spring!
Soft, silvery sallow buds beginning to burst at Mill Lakes, #Bestwood Country Park. Goat #Willow is vital for early pollinators, providing some of the first pollen and nectar of the year when little else is available.
Easy to walk past, but hugely important.

Tree bark that breathes?
Cherry bark like this in #Newstead, #Nottinghamshire, is lined with lenticels - tiny pores that allow the tree to exchange gases. They also create miniature shelters for lichens, mosses and invertebrates. Even in winter, these surfaces are alive if you look closely!

Sign the Petition
Save Ulverscroft and Markfieldβs Nature from Industrial development
An industrial hub in Charnwood Forest in my village will increase traffic and ruin the environment which is protected, and yet the protection can be removed for development. I've signed it.

A lot of people voted to leave the EU because they "didn't want to be governed by Brussels", and the majority of them never travelled to mainland Europe.
I was born in 1979 as a European Brit, and my identity was been stripped from me without my agreement. I'm all in favour of rejoining Europe.
