β€˜No safety rules’: Concerns grow as AI-generated videos spread hate online In recent months similar AI-generated content has flooded social media platforms, openly promoting violence and spreading hate against members of LGBTQ2S+, Jewish, Muslim and other minority groups.

The future of AI depends on how we choose to shape it.

Ontario Tech researchers Dr. @petelewis.bsky.social and Dr. Andrea Slane share their thoughts on using #TechWithAConscience and our need to develop policies that can keep pace with this technology.

Can we trust generative AI to know and tell us when it doesn’t know the answer? As more and more people, and organizations, turn to artificial intelligence (AI) for ideas and answers, a leading Ontario Tech University global expert in trustworthy AI is raising a caution flag for ...

If we want AI to support human decision-making, it must be transparent about its limits.

Canada Research Chair in Trustworthy AI @petelewis.bsky.social shares how #TechWithAConscience starts with teaching AI to say β€œI don’t know” when needed.

My heart breaks for the NSF officials who are forced to put out announcements like this. A very sad & terrifying time for all of us in science who have promoted -- and who I hope will continue to promote -- the basic principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in our work.

Just finished Moon of the Crusted Snow and Moon of the Turning Leaves - read them back to back and literally could not put either book down! Highly recommended.

Thank you, @waub.bsky.social Incredible storytelling and world building! πŸ’š

At @ontariotechu.bsky.social we rounded off the year with a β€œCakes & AI” research show-and-tell event, in our library’s amazing Fireside Reading Room!

Amazing community, and a great opportunity to learn about the diversity of AI research across the university.

Thanks to everyone who presented! πŸ§πŸ€–

So much of my job is this over and over again on a loop:

"So what do you think we should do in order to responsibly build the Torment Nexus?"

"You can't. It's a Torment Nexus. Stop it."

"But the Torment Nexus is inevitable!"

"It's not. You could just not do it. You could stop right now."

This moment in Bluesky is a great example of how joy itself can be defiance and resistance.

We are just hanging out, shitposting, being silly, happy, and normal. It is being treated as if it is transgressive, opting out of the endless negativity. Because in a way, it is.

Joy is my favorite weapon.

Seems like lots of folk suddenly started taking about Bluesky this week. I experienced this in different groups.

Curious as to why. Was there a big push somewhere? Did people leave Mastodon?

And is it a new Twitter but like the old days? Or are we done with that model & this is something else?

Reimagining Digital Public Spaces and Artificial Intelligence for Deep Cooperation | Pete Lewis Researchers who have worked in computer science or artificial intelligence for more than a few years will have experienced a profound shift in the public perception of their field from being something...

New to BlueSky, long time Twitter user here.

No idea what the vibe is like yet here (except for cats, there seem to be lots of cats, which is lovely).

So I’ve been thinking a lot about digital β€œpublic” spaces lately. Here’s a long read by me and friends about that sort of stuff…
