Call off the King’s visit to the US for the 250th anniversary of America's independence With the current political chaos in the US and Trump’s failure to adhere to international norms, and given his apparent obsession with the Monarchy, calling off this visit would send a powerful messag...

The Government is planning to send King Charles to the US to celebrate with Trump. Giving him a royal visit right now sends a terrible message that his behaviour is acceptable. We can stop this if enough of us speak up. Will you add your name to the petition? you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ca...

Not the best picture, but a little Goldcrest I spotted on my walk around the village today.

Yesterday, at Greenham Common Control Tower, a remembrance service was held to mark the 81st anniversary of a terrible glider crash on 12 Dec 1944 when a Horsa glider crashed killing all 33 on board. The service, organised by the RBL was well attended with USAF personnel from RAF Welford attending.

The real Salt Path: how a blockbuster book and film were ... Penniless and homeless, the Winns found fame and fortune with the story of their 630-mile walk to salvation. We can reveal it was far from the truth

Having read and enjoyed all of Raynor Winn's books, I'd assumed that there was some poetic licence. But no, it went far beyond that.

Great investigation.

Saturday afternoon, drinking a glass of wine, reading Reginald Hill ‘Midnight Fugue’, thinking “life is good”. Then see it’s a signed copy to me from 2009 that I can’t remember buying. Life is very good.

This photograph captures Sir David Attenborough seated outdoors on the rugged terrain of Skomer Island. Behind him, the ocean and coastal cliffs form a scenic backdrop under a clear sky. Sir David, dressed in a khaki jacket and light trousers, looks towards the camera with a gentle expression, exuding a sense of warmth, calm, and wisdom. Around him, puffins can be seen flying and perched on the rocky ground, illuminated in rays of golden sunlight as the sun sets behind the cliffs.

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉

Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace.

You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

Because admission is ‘public’ i.e open to any pupil not just those in the local area - subject to affording the fees and passing an entrance exam, of course.

Old oak tree with twisted branches in autumn woodland of ancient oaks

Old oak tree with twisted branches in autumn woodland of ancient oaks

A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. Please repost if you agree 🌳

The Orphans’ Project began in the 1950s, when Daphne and David Sheldrick started raising orphaned animals in Tsavo. Their pioneering work laid the foundation for modern elephant and rhino care. Today, led by their daughter Angela, we continue that legacy—rescuing, raising, and reintegrating orphans.

But we're going to have beautiful empty shelves and it's something I think you'll be seeing very soon. We won't be the country of clutter anymore. [doing accordion hands] it's called minimalism. Ok?

A striking Oystercatcher strolls along wet, rocky mudflats, its vivid orange bill tipped with a tiny morsel of food. The bird’s black and white plumage glows in the low sunlight, and a small silver leg ring is visible, marking it as part of a long-term study.

Big news from the mudflats!

The UK’s oldest known Oystercatchers - aged 41 and 43 - have been discovered on The Wash.

That’s three times their species’ average lifespan!

Legends wade amongst us... 😎

Each day, our orphaned herd enjoys a nutritious treat of range cubes, which supplement their natural browsing and keep them energised for their adventures. These pellets are clearly a hit, as they often attract a few cheeky visitors: local baboons.

You’re doing amazing work. I’m (lazily) letting them find their own food in my garden. Both Ms Brown & Mr Black seem to be thriving and returning, though maybe with less interaction.

That was my ‘gateway’ too. Over 20’years ago. Someone left it on my bookshelf and I wanted to sit by the river, the Thames, on a sunny day. So I grabbed it, and entered a whole new world. Just magical.
