It's not about how quickly you write code (though that is important --- along side quality). It's about how you enable others to delivery quality code quickly and efficiently
Most of the waste is WAITING! (for code review, code changes, code qa, code review, deploy process waiting). The actual code writing/re-writing took 6 hours, but it waits 8-10 days to deploy. If we can reduce the stagnation time for code, we increase the efficiency of every release.
Having lived the kaizen life for 10 years in a manufacturing environment, it can be so hard to to explain to software engineers (or often even managers) where the inefficiencies lie in the coding process.
