i _kinda_ understand the logic: when you're behind in rent already, and then another month--it does add up, and it can be harder to get out from under that. But. The pause would give time to coordinate that assistance, and for people to fundraise, oooh and maybe big $ philanthropy could throw in.

This was _wild_ to hear from them, truly. And a few testifiers said this, which is really important: a 30 day pause gives bureaucracy (city, county, applications) the time to implement the 1 mil in rent assistance the city is allocating to the county.

i do not understand the housing non-profits. i mean, i understand the idea that once you're behind in your rent, you're really behind. i've been there! but then what is their solution? the city give them more money so they can provide housing? resources? JUST SAY WHAT YOU WANT.

almost every single testifier has said something about the rent money they've raised, or the support they've been doing. the ones who haven't are the landlords; who've talked about the loss they'll face.

speaker: "We have not died for our neighbors to be evicted." and, well. goddamn.

@lookitup.baby testifying: mutual aid takes time & resources; there is too much need right now. An eviction notice itself is damaging to families. Resources have been dedicated to this (rent aid), but the eviction pause allows time to implement those resources.

Ok, this testifier, ouch. She just asked all of the councilmembers if they've patrolled, or done any of the things thousands of Minneapolis residents have been doing over the past 2 months. That should be a roll-call question, actually.
