Seriously WTF
Seriously WTF
I can just imagine publishing execs reading about this and realizing that there’s not enough sweatshop labor in our industry. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...
No need to be polite IMO! Keep up the good fight ✊
Oof yes. The manifest destiny (etc) is ripe in practically all these books
As a collector of books about California, especially the older ones, I’m interested to know which one this is!
The destruction of public radio is truly an existential threat to books and book culture. I can't say it enough.
I’m getting so annoyed at people’s cluelessness about the fact that interviewers are SUPPOSED TO press politicians on divisive issues—& say what their critics are saying!—in order to give them a chance to have their say! It’s not a chummy podcast or a pep rally, it’s an opportunity to reach doubters
What is America anymore?
The arrest of union leader David Huerta is galvanizing a new element—solidarity:
“Right now, just in the last 14 hours, labor unions are joining together from far and wide, communities are reaching out in ways I’ve never seen,” Orr told me. “Something is different.”

I’m finally listening to North Woods and really enjoying it
Trying to get my head round how this could make it to print. Many warning signs for all of us
Every novelist I know has had a non-writer offer to go 50-50 on their genius idea. “You just have to write it.”
Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.
Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.
A reminder from the late Nikki Giovanni about the value of libraries...

Arkansas state house committee "narrowly voted down a bill that some thought would violate the First Amendment and likely force the closure of some of the state’s small, rural libraries."
Disgusting

Yes! I’d like to see that, too.
B&N is reportedly squeezing a store into Napa this summer, and we’re worried. We’ve already got two great indie bookstores (hey, it’s a small town!), and we doubt the reading public will sustain a third. Who will lose, the corporation or the little guys?
A reminder that if you’re using AI to write your novel or memoir or whatever it is you’re trying to develop, you’re absolutely doing it wrong and missing the point entirely of what it means to make art and tend to and honor your creative self.
Hey you know who else is good at creative writing
Still thinking about Newsom. For a Democratic leader to consent to a framework that portrays trans people as a group that is trying to take something away from other people is flatly unforgivable. It is what the right does. And a Democrat who will do it to one group will do it to any group.
So far my only regret in not having children is not being able to introduce them (these imagined progeny) to the magic of books and reading.
Who needs a pee tape! Remember Helsinki? And the day when he brought the Russians into the Oval alone & insisted on no notes? You don’t have to be a conspiracy theorist to understand how dark all of this is, how venal & hollow & easy to play he is
I just dropped my first load of dry cleaning since March 2020 and my cleaner has upgraded their comms! Texting, a link with ETA, etc. It’s a whole new world.
Mr. Rogers said "look for the helpers," but his advice was for CHILDREN.
If your ass is grown your role is to BE the helper.
I wish I could find the person who said this originally, but it's been too long.
As someone who works at a library, the responses to this warm my heart. Libraries really are awesome—and so are the people who use them!
Project 2025 seeks to dismantle the separation of church and state, portrays the Bible as the foundation of our law and calls for "a biblically based, social science–reinforced definition of marriage and family." This is in motion now. Please urge your reps to fight this order signed two days ago.
