Just to hit the numbers, the freelancers here were paid in full (though a payment was delayed), and over $2 per word, and when a buyout was offered as a way to get a 2nd edition going, asked for $20+/word further as their opener, then lowered it to an extra $2.50/word, then back to an added $6/word.
the whole thing
ahhh tysm for having me !! this was such an amazing playtest to be a part of - it was a real privilege to get to see y'all at work as both participants in a game and as game designers!! i also just had such a blast <3

creeping back on here to promote my gorgeous + insanely talented friend Isabelle's work !! it's been an absolute pleasure to get to read her writing and i highly highly reccommend backing her patreon for some incredible content :3
oooh a factoid !!
hi everyone!! apologies for the radio silence since. well basically since the start of this account - over the past year I've been spending most of my creative juices on poetry and other creative works IRL under a different name. I fully intend to return to game design, just maybe not for a while <3
after a very frustrating call with Visa (US+CAN), I was told that Visa would like inquiries relating to using their bargaining power to destroy adult media to be sent, via email, to
askvisa@visa.com
they asked. to be sent. emails. you know what to do.
I know i certainly haven't been active in game design since last year (beyond playtesting other's games). i dont know when ill have the capacity to focus on it as a hobby again, as it competes with my other creative outlets for time. but i DO know my games will be coming off itch tomorrow
Kia ora! You mention that you first had an inkling of this in April, and you certainly saw the news about Steam. Locking people out of collecting their pay with no warning was easily avoidable. Even a day's notice - which you had, according to your Discord messages - would've been better than this.
π¨π¨π¨ Indie website itch.io has just rolled out a major shadow ban of NSFW content. This drastic escalation in censorship already seems to affecting trans authors.
TRANS AUTHORS ON ITCH: Please check you pages.
I am going to report on this TONIGHT. To those affrcted, DM me with any info.
i wrote an article for my patreon explaining my perspective in depth, including asides on trans women in sports, the simulation of chess, and a taxonomy of what exactly a rule *is*

In BDSM studies it's accepted that after intense physical and emotional scenes or any scenes, you do aftercare. This includes a wide format of communication and care. With the overlapping circle of larp and BDSM you'd think we could all agree debriefs in some form should be mandatory. πββοΈ

Not my mortification, but I witnessed it. I was working as an assistant to Jane, a woman who hit the βlittle old ladyβ stereotype even though she was in her forties. She wore a lot of cardigans she knitted herself and she quilted blankets for everyone who had a baby. She had quaint turns of phrase like βThank you kindly,β which she even used in her email signature. She had a range of cat statues on her desk. That kind of thing. We had two newer employees who were both in their mid-20s, call them Frank and Hank, and they thought it would be hysterical to substitute words in a report they were writing for Jane with similar-sounding words that were slang terms for sex acts. They assumed this sweet innocent woman would never notice, and since she was the only one who would read it, no harm done. Jane got the document and called them in ten minutes later. I sat at my desk and listened while she grilled them about their βunusual word choicesβ until they broke down and admitted they had maybe used some slang terms they shouldnβt have. As a joke. Then she made them define each one. I could hear the absolute mortification in their voices as they struggled through explanations of terms I myself didnβt know, telling a woman they thought of as sweet and innocent all about these sexual terms. Then came the one where Hank defined it and Jane said, βNo, thatβs not what it means,β and provided a very detailed and technical explanation using proper medical terminology. Dead silence from Frank and Hank. Jane said, βPranks like these make you look incompetent. Using words you donβt understand makes you look like fools. And making assumptions about your coworkersβ personal lives makes you look ignorant. Now youβre going to spend the next six months trying to prove to me that youβre none of those things, and it seems like that will be quite a challenge for you.β Frank and Hank played no more pranks for the rest of the time I worked there.
Jane is a hero
REAL i mean. who said that . not me
it is just shocking how many buds walk around wearing old wounds like a mask and it is SO obvious. i just want to give them a hug and say BUD you dont have to wear those around anymore, you can set them down. love is weightless but i understand it looks so heavy after hauling all those wounds around
