If only the anime had come sooner... With all the popularity and momentum it had back then when the LA came out, that was the perfect time for an anime.
Still it has managed to pull impressive numbers during all these years.

The anime came when it was ending, so there was not a big explosion. Even more when this manga was huge some time ago, at its first years of publication.
Even so, during the anime it got a good boost in sales.
