Oh, that's odd, and not obvious at all:

'International Maths Day' would be a day agreed by the world's mathematicians or UNESCO.

'π day', or, better, 'π approximation day' is a US only day because of their peculiar, nonsensical mm/dd/yyyy date format.

Even it only really worked in the year 1592.

Epoch Converter Convert Unix Timestamps (and many other date formats) to regular dates.

All days are numeric, today, for example you can find the epoch date and time as a number here: www.epochconverter.com

They are both numbers, but why you wanted to divide them was my question.

Which of the alternatives you give, which, strangely, don't include division, were you going for?

05.03.2026 13:47 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

You divided '..international day..' by 'π day'

42 / 21 =2

The solidus, or forward slash, '/', is used to represent division if '÷' isn't available.

I'm not sure that division works, even if the units match.

The problem is the word ‘International’.

Call it American π day and there is no problem.

American π day. With the normal date format, the 14th of March is significant as the ides of March.

I was mindful of the danger of a fall because of this warning in the lift showing someone falling downstairs.

It was a short top step just before the ticket barrier, and we were tired from quite a bit of walking.

I travelled from Moscow to Kars (well, Leninakan, on the Soviet Side) by train, staying in camping category three, which translated to lovely, warm, cosy wooden chalets. There were, apart from us, no foreigners. I think they were kept at bay by the thought of tents in freezing conditions.

On any train in Eastern Europe, or the Soviet Union, there'd be no food trolly, just a samovar in the corner. However, twenty minutes into the journey, lavish picnics of sausages, cheese and fruit would emerge from greatcoat pockets.

I was in Moscow in 1985, in January - so I had two Christmas days, the first in a houseboat on Dal Lake in Kashmir.

What impressed me, apart from vodka in 50ml measures, was the magnificent ice cream, at -20C on Red Square. The queue was tribute to excellence.

How very peculiar! They had real food in the Soviet Union, why would they want industrial junk?

They are. But, at the same time, they are sometimes, surprisingly, quite good at it. Particularly if you help them out a bit.

Rather like people that way…

That’s language for you. You don’t have to worry though, the old meanings remain, and quite a lot of people can cope with a word meaning more than one thing.

There I entirely agree. We swim in 'the system', so it is, in the main, invisible.

Even just discussing it improves matters, raising the level of scepticism from simply within-system perspectives.
