While @chrclla.bsky.social focuses its efforts on impact litigation, my team boosts efforts on the ground whenever possible.
What I saw speaks to the crisis in LA & beyond.

BREAKING: LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho says there are currently “federal vans” parked within blocks of two public schools. He did not name which ones. Carvalho - who came to the US undocumented - said “every student has a constitutional right to a public education.”
As I told @katecagle.bsky.social, city employees are already frustrated because they don't have the capacity or resources to deliver the games.
But these budget hearings seem to confirm that the internal strategy is to eliminate jobs and rely on volunteers to do the actual megaevent preparations

I’m here at the LA County Civilian Oversight Commission where the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is openly defying a subpoena issued by the commission. Sheriff Robert Luna says the department has “nothing to hide”, but was instructed by county counsel to not send anyone.

I really miss having a reliable platform for breaking news - verified agencies that could post information in real time…with real people sharing and replying and adding their own vantage point. That requires accounts for weather, traffic, fire, police, elected official, etc all in one place :)

From a journalism perspective, non-white journalists in supposedly liberal outlets tried to diversify our newsrooms, push for marginalized people to be heard and treated seriously, and to reach out to young people.
