Been a tough week for Drake, so I am happy they get a little bit of joy.

Two dogs looking out a window. One is a very happy boxer and the other a quite skeptical, but also innately happy, pointer mix.
Give me your favorite pet photos! This one of our boxer George (RIP my prince!) and our little mutt Linde brings me so much joy!
That one is still on my list. For me it is a close battle between cycling and sailing. A perfectly balanced sail boat gives a sense of perfect harmony with the world that is hard to achieve in any other way.
Does anyone (*taps microphone* @dingdingpeng.the100.ci) have a blog post that clearly explains the dangers of over interpreting cross-sectional cohort research. Need a reader friendly response to 'people who drank green tea had lower rates of Alzheimer's, so drinking green tea can reduce your risk."
Does 'False Positive Psychology' fit? I know it is not ethics per se, but does have some 'Requirements'.
Plus, it is legitimately one of the most (if not THE most) enjoyable ways to move across this planet!
Declan Coady graduated from the same high school as I did and was attending Drake University, the first school I taught at. I am deeply mourning his senseless death.
I burn with anger at those who call for war but never see its effects nor care for those who do.
You have set off a real debate at my office.
I would watch that movie. The show they made not good and this is too rich an area for it to be permanently shelved.
Would love that! I'll message you to set it up.
I will amend to say 'Limited Re-Review' :) I just desperately want to avoid situations like my current one. We are on a second round of revisions, original reviewers no longer interested, 11 others have declined. I have been on both sides of this and hated it :)
I think that is fair. Particularly for complicated analyses or novel areas. I think flexibility is fine on that one when required :)
My two step plan to fix academic publishing:
1. First submission can be in any reasonable format.
2. After the first round of reviews and revision, the editor decides to publish or not. No re-reviews.
This plan would save hundreds of thousands of hours for free.
Literally spent 30 minutes yesterday moving the superscript numbers from inside of the punctuation to outside the punctuation. Of course, previously, I had to switch it from (Name, Year) to Numbered, which took significantly longer. Insert 'Is this Science?' meme.
Unrelated - but Matchstick Men (2003) is a hidden gem of a film.
My wife and I are snowbirding here this winter from Minnesota. Easily the best decision we have ever made.
I mean, better than following a judge around the desert on various quests.
Step 1: Give more homework
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Professor makes more money?!
I might get 'If it runs, it runs' as a tattoo?
Does that make MarioKart a direct or indirect expense? :)
One of my most recent papers was based on an idea that my wife had while we were walking around a lake together. I really wish there was a way (that is a culture in science) for me to have said that in the paper.
Just for fun - let's say you are in quant psych and figure out a proof in a dream. What would be the best way to describe that in an article? Just don't? I feel like science would be so much more interesting if we talked about the how.
Include a nonsensical equation to see if anyone points out the error.
Letz go even bigger and better,,, ALL Female US Olympians and Paralympian medalists are invited out to celebrate in Viva Las Vegas for the SHE GOT GAME Weekend ,,,
Hit a guy up and LETZ GOOO
Except a car horsepower does not equal actual horse's power.
I remember being on sabbatical and a fellow prof recommended a podcast on burnout and I was so excited to learn how to overcome it and the conclusion was 'change your work environment b/c not an individual level problem.' Was so discouraging, but also helped me get out.
Yeah, Go is very good as well. I had never heard of Bero until watching this round up. Just picked some up and I liked it. Hate that these now cost more than actual beer, but still a nice treat :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE3X...

According to the data linked in that article, the rate per 100k in the UK in 2023 was about 17 for men. According the most recent VA suicide report, the rate for non-veteran men in 2023 per 100 was 28.4 (it is 37.8 for veteran men). Catastrophic is the right word.
