So crazy that Ireland exports around 90% of the food we produce, and at the same time imports around 83% of its fruit and veg. As Mick Kelly so eloquently puts it, "food security isn’t just about calories. It’s about access to fresh, nutritious food that supports public health." #spéirgorm

The shattered ruin of a castle tower, perfectly reflected in the blue waters of Lough Oughter, Cavan

Clogh Oughter Castle • Cavan

The castle was built by William Gorm de Lacy in the 13th century.

Clogh Oughter Castle was the very last Irish stronghold to fall to Cromwell’s forces when it was bombarded by cannon until the garrison finally surrendered.

People from this part of the world lack the durable carapace that other nations have developed to cover their sense of shame.

Project Hail Mary review: Galaxy-spanning blockbuster starring Ryan Gosling is a sentimental treat Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s film is old-school American can-do at its most inventive and humane

I had an absolute blast at PROJECT HAIL MARY. Shame is succumbed to too-many-endings syndrome.

I enjoyed the book, though I agree with your article about the last third of it.

Surely can't be as bad as the Return of the King for multiple endings?

I remember watching that in a cinema, as the credits *finally* arrived, a fella bellowed "last half hour of that film was pure f**king hell!"

Hoppers is good fun. There's one or two parts that might be a little much for younger children, but both me and our 8 year old enjoyed it.

Antony Beevor: Trump shows signs of dementia. He can’t be controlled The bestselling historian, 79, has written about some of humanity’s darkest moments — and believes the West is totally unprepared for the threats it faces

1/3 There is and End of Days feel about Western Hegemony right now. A half millennia in which the West hoarded much of the world’s wealth, plundering, colonising and burning through fossil fuels, is ending in a paroxysmal, Trumpian blunder.

I was going to follow this up with quite a spicy take about the countless millions spent on advertising Ireland's incredible heritage to tourists, versus the complete lack of funding and resources for heritage organisations and staff.

But I will resist. Personal growth and all that.
