Bobcats on the 9th st bridge sidewalk right now!
Not aware of any progress on the bridges besides Franklin, unfortunately.
The Bladensburg rail underpass just south of QC is also a disaster waiting to happen if folks are taking additional swings at this problem today.
fwiw no progress on QC bridge sidewalk as of just now.
Hopefully theyβll hit all the bridges today.
I noted when I called that if DDOT is handling sidewalks, they should be sure to handle bike lanes on Franklin and Monroe too. For many reasons, including keeping bikes and scooters off the sidewalk.
I just called and helped craft a detailed memo on the topic for escalation, covering bike lanes and sidewalks on the list of bridges and the DDOT/DPW conflict.
Is there anything folks can do to push this along? 9th St bridge, QC, Taylor, Monroe, Franklin are all pretty bad on sidewalks (and bike lanes where applicable) and theyβre major points of failure in the network obviously.

Day 2 requires neither sled nor steep slope.

Happy snowday from Langdon Park and an open RIA!
Oh and then thereβs this built around 2015. www.cnhsparking.com/brookland
Rhode Island Row has two above ground parking garages and was built circa 2011 (although because it was a WMATA partnership planning had been going on for a while).
Thanks Councilmember. I did my best to summarize the state of affairs in this draft resolution that 5C will be considering tonight, if folks want to read more. docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Thank you Councilmember! While more funds will help immensely, we still need DPR to take community input seriously when weighing the inevitable heavy trade-offs in a complex project like this. ANC 5C will be considering a resolution tonight to push them on that. docs.google.com/document/d/1...
We are being governed by the most corrupt, self-serving President this country has ever seen. DC has borne the brunt because we are not a state. The attempt to seize control of DC's public golf courses is another (small) example of how this harms regular people in DC and nationwide
Donβt get me wrong; I have my gripes. Especially around ZC 24-11 and their failure to create an MU-PDR zoning form before this case came up.
Sometimes they submit substantive applications! Theyβre upzoning Cleveland Park right now.
Maybe this would be too much fiscal impact, but something for @brianneknadeau.bsky.social and team to consider.
This is good, but there should be triggers for the Office of Planning to apply for Map Amendments to the Zoning Commission to implement any FLUM changes, or they wonβt do anything.
To be clear, itβs three successive processes inside of 11 months:
- Council picks a successor by Council vote (never happened to process unclear)
- Special Election (likely earlier than the June primary, and likely not RCV as a result)
- General Election, two-winner RCV w/the primary winners
It is unpleasant that the single highest ROI solution to literally all of our problems is considered politically contentious.
Insane but true fact: making US roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more lives than eliminating murder from the US.
Last week, Dem @congressmin.bsky.social sided with Republicans to support the Trump takeover of DC. This is the wrong lesson to learn from recent Dem losses. Voters care about stances on everyday issues; performing moderation on issues they donβt care about doesnβt win elections
Some folks are so pacifist, theyβd rather die than fight back, which is mostly fine if nobody depends on them or gets their advice on politics.
Itβs a little silly that while all basic decorum for law enforcement in this city fell apart, my official elected work mostly involved talking to neighbors about new speedhumps. But hereβs a speedhump stopping a vehicular threat without major injury. www.popville.com/2025/08/feds...
The US isnβt in great shape. DC should do less bad than the US average on traffic violence, on new home construction, on basic services, on taking care of all residents. Soβ¦ letβs do any of that instead of silly stuff.
Itβs fine to hold DC to a higher standard than the 50 US cities with higher crime rates. I do it all the time! I just also try to be serious about solutions. We need our judicial and prosecutorial vacancies filled.
See folks out tomorrow!
As do I, but we both have 2023-era Abounds that got one incremental upgrade and then one major upgrade since. Iβd say the current bikes in this market segment have more to do with each other than with our relics.
