When I was a reader, I didn't keep stats on CONSIDERS vs PASS. I DO remember that if I had two CONSIDERS a week, that was a rare week.

And we're talking about submissions to agencies and production companies. Even at the pro level, you're passing on significantly more than you are moving up.

Are you someone who wants to see every pore, every follicle, every crease, every nascent blemish on your face? Try HOTEL MIRROR, the best way to feel bad about your face on vacation.

Specificity in a character makes them feel real and grounded, which then makes their emotional arc ALSO feel real and grounded, and thus... relatable. Additionally, it reinforces that so much of what we feel, what we struggle with, find purpose in, is universal.

Just looked through writing gigs on LinkedIn, half of which turn out to be training AI when you click on them. Came back on Bluesky and to find someone complaining that writers who want to be paid for their work are "money grabbing twats".

Sometimes I think people deserve gen AI slop.

If you need a timeline cleanse you should know that Dexter Sol Ansell who plays Egg on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms went to school as Egg for World Book Day.

My [36M] girlfriend [26F] makes her vagina β€œtalk” to me and will not stop.
Relationships

She’s amazing. Cute, funny, emotionally self-aware, great communication skills, everything I’ve ever wanted. She is also quirky and dorky, which is new for me but I enjoy it (after a lifetime of dating β€œbad bitches” I will now forever endorse dating dorks) β€”except this one thing. She thinks its incredibly funny to manipulate her vagina and provide a voice for it.

I will be just minding my own business, playing vidya or working on my laptop or whatever and then boom. β€œHEY HANDSOME HOW WAS YOUR DAY?! ARE YOU HUNGRY?! I BOUGHT CHEEZ-ITS!!”

There she is, dress hiked up, no panties, both hands gripping her vulva a foot from my head and making her lips talk to me in this horrible high-pitched Grover-esque muppet voice.

As it’s World Book Day, why not read Making Movies, Sidney Lumet’s superb book about his filmmaking process.
Here’s a telling anecdote about Akira Kurosawa that shows how important pragmatism is in the creative process.

I wonder if on one of the Indian channels some middle-aged comedian is being sent around Britain, getting the Thameslink to St Albans, sampling pey wet in Wigan, poignantly observing that there are homeless folk on the streets even in Knightsbridge, and so forth bsky.app/profile/jack...

I cannot wait for the insights on this! He's going to:

1. Sample some local street food.
2. Ride a train.
3. Visit a temple.
4. Not mention the pogroms that the serving Prime Minister presided over.
5. Smile at some elephants.
6. Top up his kids' private school fees.
7. Say "India is changing".

Hard same, I know it's a marketing gimmick (I hope like most marketing gimmicks all this booktok shit evaporates in the cleansing light of day) but the "tropes checklist" is one of the worst things to happen to the public's relationship to books, every time I see it I feel the call of violence

And is it cheaper?

Oh good gosh no. And it's still heavily subsided at the moment, too.
