That's crazy! When I visited in 2022, a fast food restaurant wanted my number even though I was paying in cash. Another restaurant wanted my number before they would seat me. Both found it hard to believe I didn't have an Indian phone number.

I've been getting Christmas tree ornaments from places I visit for the last few years! Not a lot so far but I'll get there! Here's a bit of the tree from last year showing Denmark, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Agree with point about refocus on mission rather than growth. Especially with the coming "demographic cliff."
At the same time, I think a lot of departments could stand to cut down the number of PhDs they churn out. I don't think this will necessarily impact the quality of science.
Maybe NIC was doing a really bad job with email servers. I won't be surprised. But of course, kicking some nice govt. contracts to a "friend" of the party in power is probably another reason.
