#SouthAfrica does not charge the US 60% in #tariffs - it varies i.e. clothing is 40%; light vehicles 25%; original equipment components 20%. #Trump 60% is the trade deficit i.e. ($5.8 billion-$14.5 billion) divide by $14.5 billion = -60.6%. So simplistic .. 😳

Stunned that President #Trump does not understand how #tariffs work. A company importing a product pays the tariff, NOT the company/country selling it. The cost is passed on to the consumer. To encourage local production & not import, you have to eliminate barriers & incentivise local production

Glad I've worked in 2 countries that have labour laws understanding people have financial commitments. You can't just say 'You're Fired!' and you're out today in the UK & South Africa (been made redundant in both). Think the US is cruel and let's not talk about maternity leave - among worse in world
