It would be difficult to balance as something creepy vs cringe, but I think you could do a sort of creepypasta-style video or world in VRChat in a way that is done with tact. I haven't seen this done, though.

New world is technically published now. Go check it out if you're interested. It's very small and will be expanded a lot, so keep in mind that there's not a lot of interactibility at the moment at all. I just wanted a small something to make for spookality this year, so I only spent a week on it.
