Trost served as a Professor in the biological sciences department at Idaho State University, teaching ornithology, animal behavior, comparative anatomy, and physiological ecology, and conducting research on black-billed magpies for more than 30 years before retiring in 2000.

Thursday, we were joined by nuclear facility representatives and nuclear safety authorities from the DOE. Meanwhile, on Friday, the reactor designers and analysts from Aalo Atomics stopped by. The workshops cover what’s going on inside a nuclear reactor as it approaches criticality.

“It was like this part of the world was taken over by sponges,” said Leif Tapanila, director of the IMNH and professor of geosciences at ISU. “If you were snorkeling, all you’d see would be a meadow of billions of tube-shaped sponges that went off into the distance.”
