I'd like to add that like in all industries, when we stop understanding how our tools work, we become entirely dependent on the corporate entities that own the mold. We are trading the ability to build and repair for the convenience of being permanent tenants in someone else's infrastructure/subs.
Ok, I think I know the cause for confusion here. When you originally said "there is a huge difference between X and Y" I interpreted it as "GenAI is ok in some scenarios (code, tweening) but not in others (generating art)", which triggered me a bit. Sorry about that.
What the hell are you talking about? My point is that: if you're using a tool that relies on models trained on massive amounts of content (legally or illegally collected), you're using GenAI. My *only* point is that it doesn't matter if it's for art, music, code, localization, etc. It's all GenAI.
Were they made using tools that relied on AI models that were trained on thousands/millions of examples both from the public domain as well as from copyrighted content? If so, yeah.

It’s all GenAI. The model only knows how to generate the in-between frames or that line of code *because* it was trained on stolen content.
My rule of thumb is: if you had any LLM-generated content in your game, at any point during the production process, your game used GenAI. That includes using code provided by Copilot or suggested during a chat with any model. AI summaries differ, imo, because you didn’t *actively* generate them.
It’s mind-boggling to me that this only explicitly applies to art, music, etc. It sends the message that using AI/LLMs to help code entire systems/mechanics is a-ok. Coding also requires creativity and ingenuity, and LLMs were also likely trained on private/copyrighted codebases. Why exclude it?
