Four decades ago, this insect built its protective shell from human garbage
Study suggests microplastics have been affecting freshwater animal communities for decades
Science picked up the paper by PhD student
@aukeflorian.nl and his team on the use of microplastics by caddisfly larvae in their casings. It's part of a larger project on how, why and since when animals incorporate human-made materials in the structures they build.

Magic and the Machine – David Abram
In this essay, David Abram offers notes on technology and animism in an age of ecological wipeout.
“The more we participate with these astonishing technologies, the more we seal ourselves into an exclusively human cocoon, and the more our animal senses are blunted, rendering us over more blind, ever more deaf, ever more impervious to the more-than-human Earth.”

Wow! Your rersearch is so interesting. It is also connected to my own research where I mainly study (in an artistic way) how birds have this incredible capacity to adapt to their environment. Here is an image of a procelain nest I made a few years ago, where I incorporated slipcast pills containers.

Never had big explosions during firing, but Chalcopyrite was my worst experience. It volatilised in the kiln during a firing to cone 6, and deposited everywhere in the kiln (walls and shelves). I had to do a major kiln clean-up after...so my relationship with Chalcopyrite is over!

Yes! It is always a surprise to see how it expands and desintegrates!

Hello Samirah! Nice to see that we have really similar research interests, and the form in takes in your beautiful work!
I am not 100% sure what the desintagrating rock was, but it clearly had a high content of Calcium Carbonate (which behaves like that after being fired...as you may already know).

This picture of my studio was taken 2 years ago, but still represents really well my current research with local rocks and minerals that I collected across the province of Québec. The second phase of this project is starting soon!
