Today was comprised of errands, a nap, writing a few words, and just taking a break from things for a bit. I'm glad to have been able to do that. I needed it.
You know what I also need?
Sleep.
@artfulusername
she/they I'm queer with a variety of nerdy interests that include So Many Things including TTRPGs, movies, TV, and books. I occasionally dabble in writing. I'm also a member of the illustrious @wmgso.bsky.social. This bio is a work in progress. Like me.

You know you've been singing Alto too long when you find yourself automatically singing harmony when sea shanties come into rotation.
I have no regrets.
Work was fine today. I got to take a nap (yay!). They trotted out a new system at Trivia Night. It was a bit of a learning curve, but we won one of the two games that were run. I've written some words. And now it's time for Critical Role.
It's mostly going to be a matter of me recreating my couch blanket nest. Everything else? Well, I tend to keep the place tidy. I just had a few things laying about that needed to be put away.
HVAC Appointment Update: It's not happening today for some reason and will be rescheduled for a later date. So that's fun.
It wasn't necessary, but I did zoom around my apartment to tidy a bit in anticipation of the eventual arrival of the HVAC tech. Because that's just how I roll.
Absolute Units returns! Weβre here with the most special of guests, Old Crockern, the giant who watches over Dartmoor. Plus @lisaschneidau.bsky.social and Ruth Webb.
Listen as we delve into the fight for wild camping on Dartmoor, right up to the present day.

Today was better than yesterday. So that's good. I got a few words written and now it's off to bed because we're expecting an HVAC tech to check my system sometime between 8 am and 5 pm. Joy.

"Utter hilarity and fun!"
"Knocked it out of the park once again πππ"
"PUSH THE ROLL DAYS ARE THE BEST DAYS"
And now for my other Wednesday tradition: drinking mead and watching a TTRPG actual play with my dad. I'm getting him caught up on Campaign 4 of Critical Role.
Tonight's Mead: Nevermore from Clear Skies Meadery (because birds)
It's all good! I'm happy to clear things up.
I'm a fan of sticking with the classics. It'll start with a core group (Beacon Minder, Airk, and The Disappointment) and others will join the crew as the narrative expands. I imagine they'll weave in and out as the narrative dictates.
And I really need to come up with character names eventually.
There was a bit of a kerfuffle when the noble decided to abdicate, but the ruffled fur was eventually smoothed. It was gossip fodder for years, though. People love a star-crossed romance.
All I know is that a former noble from Werewolf City met Beacon Minder's sister at the market halfway down the mountain. It was love at first sight. Very ridiculous and cute. They've got a wee pack of pups now. Beacon Minder is a doting aunt.
Beacon Minder's in-law is a former noble (I need to sort out a family tree). She's still single (and totally fine with that, thankyouverymuch). A point of view character from Werewolf City has yet to reveal themselves to me. But now that you've got the wheels turning, who knows?
I am also sure that Sexy Mushroom Assassin is no longer in that network. And that makes him feel a variety of complicated emotions.
But what if you don't want to be connected? How would that work? How would everyone look at you? Would it seem weird to them to interact with someone they don't "know" in the way they know their fellow fungi? I'm sure it's a topic of great debate.
I've been thinking about Mushroom Metropolis and how fungi are frequently interconnected in a large network. I imagine that, to a certain extent, the fungi of Mushroom Metropolis are connected in that way. Like a low buzzing in the back of their minds that they can tap into.
It's time once again for WIP Wednesday. The rules are the same as always: like this post and I'll share something about my Big Fantasy Project (an eventual book series). You can also reply to this post with questions I'll try to answer.
Thanks. I had a nice evening. It was good to just be for a bit. And now it's back to work to see what today has in store for me.
[From Wikipedia] Catbus (Japanese: γγγγΉ, Hepburn: Nekobasu) is a fictional character in the Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It is a large, grinning, twelve-legged cat with a large bushy tail and a hollow body that serves as a bus, with windows and seats covered with fur. Here we see Catbus with a manic expression on their face as they zoom out of the sky and across the landscape leaving behind a Catbus-colored (tan and brown striped) streaking trail of jagged letters reading βMaybe it will happen todayβ.
Today was rough. But I got though it. And now I am going to go to bed.
Yes, I did manage to write a few words today. Yay.
Now that I have some more time under my belt, how would I have looked at the show? How would I have approached my role? I'm going to have to re-read the play, aren't I?
Yeah. I think I'm going to. Because I am curious.
Oh no. I hate how it's appropriate that I now appreciate Our Town more because I've had my mind opened by watching others analyze it.
Ugh. Theater. Shows. Why do you do this?
(I played Mrs. Webb. I was great. I only flubbed my lines once during the run of the show. And that's because a friend on the tech crew mooned me from the wings on stage left. And it was my last scene too!)
I was in a high school production of Our Town. I have very strong feelings about it as a result. I maintain that it is incredibly boring. But I will admit that Star Trek made me appreciate it in a way that I never had before.
It was not an easy day at work today. Because Reasons. So I've been spending my evening getting Dad caught up on "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy." It's just what I needed.

The bottom text is in a rainbow gradient with little rainbows framing the box. Above this is a mockup of the book's cover alongside some page mockups, and the bottom half features three other illustration previews.

it makes me so happy
I made it through Monday. There was work, rehearsal, and a bit of writing. I'm now heading to bed with the hope that whatever frozen precipitation we receive tonight is minor and doesn't impact my day tomorrow.
