Some ways to protect yourself & your neighbors: find community buildings in your area that have AC stay informed--we are much better at predicting heat waves like this now reach out to the elderly and people with young children In extreme heat, limit outdoor activity & drink lots of water!

The impact of this devastating heat wave was not random. It disproportionately affected neighborhoods with fewer community buildings, worse infrastructure, and lesser sense of community.
Recent cuts to NOAA will make natural disasters, like the 1995 Chicago heat wave, even more damaging. NOAA is a vital administration that provides accurate weather & climate information. They work to inform people of natural disasters & how to prepare for them.

First page of a July 8, 2025 letter from the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. Signed by hundreds of EPA staff, the letter accuses Zeldin of undermining the EPA’s mission and abusing his office. It states that Zeldin’s actions have harmed communities, set back science, and damaged the agency’s culture. The letter condemns the retaliatory administrative leave placed on at least 139 signatories of a previous dissent letter and warns that these retaliatory acts may violate the Whistleblower Protection Act.
🔥 Congress just issued a letter to EPA Admin Zeldin demanding an end to what they call “illegal retaliation” against the #EPA139 for signing the #DeclarationofDissent.
These civil servants warned that EPA leadership was endangering public health, abuse of authority, & gross mismanagement.
