Option 2 seems genuinely unthinkable. But how do you manage broken social norms? IDK but its been hilarious watching interactions and cultural exchange between chinese and american users on XHS.
XHS either 1) bans all the American users who want to post brainrot memes and discuss politics, or 2) it relaxes its moderation. There is too much money involved for Option 1. XHS sponsorship money is already exceeding tiktok $$ figures, 40k followers nets you $60k USD a year. XHS has billion+ users
XHS is currently getting an influx of western users that are using it just like Tiktok. But XHS is a Chinese app! You cant discuss certain topics and the moderation is more strict than Tiktok. There are American users whove posted hilarious accounts of getting banned immediately without knowing why.
The TikTok ban and the past 48 hours on XiaoHongShu has been one of the most interesting events on the internet I've ever seen. There is an incredible massive experiment playing out that has the chance to reshape the internet.
