and pass them into the inputs script so you can still control the specific parts you need for that prefab.
Something like that, I think.

The most parent gameobject handles the inputs and swapping.
Swapping has three arrays; one that you drop the SOs into, one to keep track of the slots, and one that grabs the prefab from the SO to store it as it's own array.
Instantiate each prefab, see which one is active, grab the ref's it needs 2/

I couldn't find any tutorials for it. The short version is characters are stored as scriptable object that has a reference to a prefab w/ all the specific logic (move, shooting, dodging, etc, with the prefab also using that SO to know what exactly it should have (like base stats or a weapon) 1/-

I still need to refactor everything else so I can connect it to this, but since the baseline works adding everything else is basically just copy-pasting.
It should also work just fine with character selection in a different scene, since I'd just need to drop SOs into an array

Took a while, but I managed to make the baseline for spawning in and dynamically swapping between multiple characters while maintaining character specific information.
So you could have a party of 4 characters and freely swap between them while only controlling one, like in Genshin.

It'll make freeze a bit more different than just relying raw numbers like skirk. It doesn't even change how all the bosses are just giant hp sponges now or have shill mechanics.

I'm fully convinced freeze would be useable if bosses could get frozen. Being able to occasionally stall the boss or interrupt it every few seconds.
Then you can even trigger shatter on them and people could remember that reaction exists.
But no let's get more melt/vape and "reaction but 2.0"

Ya know, it's annoying that you can't freeze any bosses in genshin.
Would it really be that game-breaking to let use freeze them, even if it's just for like a second, then some immunity for x seconds?
Stop making cool status effects then making the game focus on bosses that are immune to them
