Covid hospitalisations climb as New Zealand enters new wave There’s been an increase in hospitalisations and in wastewater detections, and it’s expected to last another month or two.

There were 19 reported covid related deaths last week and a big uptick in hospitalizations. We're in a wave.

We haven't been hearing much about it, so I'm pleased to see this article on Stuff.

NZ First is now consistently using nazi catchphrases in party political statements. you'd think that media *at least* would be pillorying him for this, and yet...

Labour isnt left-wing, they're a bourgeois party that the sooner they're made redundant the better. there is no future in pretending to like them because they're not as opportunistic and greedy as another ruling class party...

this is beyond something that needs to be framed as 'personal opinion' at this point

it's not only the correct moral, ethical and political stance in the face of US collapse into fascism and open war - it's correct purely on personal risk to NZ's residents

I know I'm not supposed to cross the streams, but as my mainstream alterego Hiria Dunning, I've spent 8 months putting this together. ALL proceeds go to OutLine Aotearoa, so you can get some good reading in and feel good about your money helping others if you buy it: books2read.com/RainbowStars

A fat white woman in a white two piece outfit and silver net dress posed on a pole, holding on with one knee hooked on the pole, the other leg and torso basically horizontal, toes perfectly pointed. She has one arm raised over her head like she's despairing at how fucking eager people are to have a group of marginalized people to shit on, and she looks fucking great

One in seven New Zealand children living in hardship, new data shows Children only get one chance at childhood - and action is needed now, Claire Achmad says.

This is an absolute disgrace. The disproportionate suffering of Māori and Pacific children and their families is an outcome of deliberate policy choices and an ongoing refusal to confront institutional racism in Aotearoa.

do we understand why using the term 'move on' in the headline, even in quotes, is bad journalism?

do we understand how it directly creates cover for social murder?

if so, why are nz media outlets *still* doing this?

love that labour are supporting scrutiny for something that only helps poor buggers. love what that signals. u absolutely don't have to give it to them labour when the govt uses the conceit of fair lawmaking to shit on the working poor again.

I feel bad when I read people who say they hate writing, especially to the extent they’d let an LLM do it. Writing was the path to making me feel human and the emotional journey of doing it all the time fills me full of purpose. I refuse to believe I’m the only person who feels like this!

I don't currently have the words for my anger and frustration seeing climate events happen all over the motu and knowing - we could have been better prepared. We could have made different choices. People don't have to die.

I'm trying terribly hard to not be bitter.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Watched by Branson Reese 28 Apr 2022

Abrams isn't a man so much as he's an avatar of cultural entropy. If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.
