Next they'll bomb hospitals, sewage treatment facilities, food storage.
Horrid
@garden-gnome
I tweet into the abyss so that if I ever become (in)famous people will know where I stood. Father, software dev guy, 3d printer nerd... squatting on http://openhatemail.com which I'll probably never use because who needs that hatred
Next they'll bomb hospitals, sewage treatment facilities, food storage.
Horrid
How high would that need to get for someone with Trump's ear to start working.
"It'll be okay, it's the best bomb, the biggest most beautiful bomb ever and it's made in America. It'll be so good they'll give you a prize for using it".
LLMs are amplifiers, all the existing behaviours are still happening.
Trouble is the pace of change, the size of changes. The wall of LLM mud created by managers in recorded meetings that get turned into stories without extra thought.
Yeah the future is looking great
A colleague has jumped onto AI like its the best thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately this same person approaches work in a "can't be fucked" manner at the best of times.
So it is force multiplying some really negative parts of the work dynamic.
None of the other photos I saw had scale. Those are huge!
Any chance for one that shows twos compliment?
Do people just sit at their computer with a book whilst they wait for an LLM to do a thing!
I upgraded the RAM in my PC to 64GB about 12 months ago. I wanted to play star citizen with less loading time.
(Don't judge I swear it worked)
If only I had the same luck on the stock markets
Yeah that works and is absolutely what I'll do eventually.
I initially biased towards a binary deployment so one task that either deploys or fails. On failure the old task is still in use. Very easy to reason about.
I deploy a few things in one task, as that makes a consistent deployment. Think webapp and a couple of types of workers. To scale them efficiently I'll need to break that up.
I don't love that tension.
The other annoying part for me is auto-scaling in fargate. You can only scale a task. Which at least for me creates tension
I'm using ECS fargate as part of the deployment pipeline I deploy a task that runs the migrations. Wait for the task to finish. Then finish the deployment.
Rollbacks? That'll be manual when it happens.
How long does it take? Ages! Mostly spent waiting for the task to complete
Happen once? Yes
I've just been handed a script that someone got Claude to make. With the statement (posed as a question) "can't you just use that?"
I can't build robust, efficient and correct software like this
I'm currently working on a problem that requires digital signal processing. I need to research this vast subject but everyday I'm being asked "How can we move faster?" or I get statements like "Can't you just use AI".
It's only been 3 days!
A huge dissonance in modern work is the mandate for speed!
It's not that business is ignoring the time, quality and cost trade-off, the know it exists. They seem to have stopped listening.

Allowing Russian athletes to compete unflagged is bullshit.
Sport is always political. Much respect for Vladyslav Heraskevych.
Well done
23+ years ago I studied Fourier transformations. I have absolutely forgotten everything about them and the maths associated.
It brings me no joy that I now need this knowledge to identify oscillations in complex signals
When did this happen?
Honestly the reporting on xAI is non-existent in Aus.
Also stupid that talented people are getting fired.
I occasionally get panned at work for being cautious when estimating dev work.
1. Estimates are always wrong
2. Today I'm really getting smashed because some features are taking a few days longer.
This is the sort of crap that will cause me to look for a new career #devlife

Honestly every western democracy should be taking steps like this. Shameful that my Gov seems happy with this behaviour.
We have laws, they should be upheld! And that should not be seen as controversial.
I worked at Lonely Plant for years. LP could have become an awesome version of Trip Advisor. Very hard to change an editorial publisher to be a digital company open to the masses.
Anyway perhaps editorial travel books will have a comeback!

Is this legit associated to github? I mean after a bunch of searching probably because status.github.com redirects to here...
Honestly though when shits broken I don't want to be questioning if the status information is legit
To the honourable member of parliament Mr Anthony Albanese. Earlier this year I watched the last season of Stranger Things on Netflix. I remember being impressed with the young actress Nell Fisher and thinking she has a bright future. I now know she is 14 years old. That becomes relevant because I've also found out that users of X have asked for Grok to transform images of her so that she has less clothes and reportedly change her pose. Shamefully the Grok LLM obliged. The photos I saw reproduced on Bluesky were blacked out, but showed some of the transformation. (source https://bsky.app/profile/parkermolloy.com/post/3mbfqagxhq224) Other posts have shown revenge porn being created depicting female X users that pointed out how abhorrent this behaviour is. Please have a spine and get off X. Force your fellow Labor MPs and federal agencies to do the same and start a process to ban access to this system. It is simply not acceptable for this behaviour to be seen as normal in any capacity. Note: I am a software developer of over 20 years. This sort of failure is not inevitable and never acceptable. X should not be allowed to pass it off as 'just a bug'. Sincerely

Regarding X, Grok, child abuse material and revenge porn.
Whoa thatβs a lot, I hope I never get so jaded that this sentence seems normal.
I sent the attached message to my Prime Minister and well his team completely ignored the substance.
The mechs are great BTW, weird slug thing firing missiles. That had myself looking at it for a bit too long and infantry.
I hope I can step on those in the final game.
Planet view UI and mission selection needs work. I kinda guessed what needed to be done. Solid demo.
Just got a chance to play this. Familiar in a good way, HUD needs a tweak as centering the mech wasnβt easy enough for me (fucking nitpick). Calling in reinforcements during a mission is great and the drop ship animation sequenceπ§βπ³π
Hoping to get time in the next few days to give this a shot.
Be a real thing if they lock out whistles before guns...
