you've gotta be able to simplify your story to it's core elements to catch people's attention. Then you can get into depth.
I think authors really struggle with marketing bc it's very much the antithesis of writing. Writers like depth and complexity. Marketing is very snappy and short. I see so many folks say "my book is so much more than tropes!" And I'm sure it is! But...
