California recently passed, and Colorado and NY recently introduced, age verification legislation targeting OS providers that is so imprecisely written that it's unclear how to comply. If you live in one of those states, contact your state senator and rep asking them to oppose this legislation.

Leaker reveals which Pixels are vulnerable to Cellebrite phone hacking Cellebrite can apparently extract data from most Pixel phones, unless they’re running GrapheneOS.

"We’ve reached out to Google to inquire about why a custom ROM created by volunteers [@grapheneos.org] is more resistant to industrial phone hacking than the official Pixel OS. We’ll update this article if Google has anything to say." arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025...

Developing a BASIC language interpreter in 2025 Developing a BASIC language interpreter in 2025 for replacing the very slow Mattel ECS BASIC for Intellivision.

A few days ago, I coded a floating-point package for the CP1610 processor, and then I made a brand new BASIC interpreter for the Mattel Intellivision ECS because I wasn't satisfied with the speed of the original πŸ€ͺ✌️ #retro #retrogaming #intellivision nanochess.org/ecs_basic.html

'Cello' comes from 'violoncello'. This Italian word has a funny literal meaning: "little big viola".

That's because it's a double derivative of 'viola':
viola > violone (big viola) > violoncello (little big viola).

The part '-cello' is only a suffix.

Here's more about it, 'violin', and 'fiddle':

Here's a late entry for #HillfortsWednesday, an aerial of Castle Ring on Harthill Moor, one of Derbyshire's lesser known and more enigmatic sites. Never been excavated, is it really a hillfort? About half a hectare with a bank, external ditch and counterscarp

I bought the books immediately on release and liked them and will likely pick up this one too.

Still wouldn't mind a sequel to the game too though... (and was half-hoping that the teaser was about that).

ChatGPT:

Q:

A father and son are in a car crash. Sadly, the son is killed. The father is rushed to the hospital and as he is laid down on the emergency room table, the doctor looks down and exclaims, "I can't operate on this man, he's my father!" How is this possible?

A:

This is a classic riddle that highlights unconscious gender assumptions.

The answer is: [bolded] The doctor is the man's other father. [/bolded]

This suggests that the son had two fathers, making the doctor his other dad.

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

And what was that all-female space mission 60 years ago?

That would be Vostok 6, which had Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova doing a three-day solo flight (during which she, you know, actually operated the spacecraft)
