Adventure games, like many other games, should not be constrained by arbitrary completion times. That puzzle you get stuck on, take a break, think about it, come back to it.
Enjoy the journey, rushing through it is a sad reflection of our throw-away culture as we're hurried onto the next thing.

I didnβt get any 3D video working, I ended using the VBE Miniport Standard PCI Graphics Adapter 140214, which was enough for what I wanted to use it for.

I put FreeDOS and Windows 98SE on one of these, all running off a 64GB Micro SD card. It was a fun little project.

"Microslop" is also becoming commonly used among their Enterprise customers.
Anecdotally, from my professional role, I know institutions have gone from working in partnership with MS on cutting edge infrastructure projects, to actively moving away, due to the drop in quality across the board.

Basically, this guy, his wife, and their musician friend* had an idea to make the most "early-1990s" game ever and just went with it, and kept on going.
It's perfection.

One of things I have noticed in the last 6 months or so of using Linux is that it's recaptured some of that joy of learning and experimenting with computers that I've not felt since the late 90s / early 2000s.

An interesting thread on the recent Dark Eye (Poe's Interactive Horror - 1995) re-release.
My thoughts, whenever I see a publisher with no previous presence releasing a previously considered abandonware title, I'd advise caution.

When I saw a publisher with no presence it felt a bit off to me.
Iβve had this one on my to-do list for a while, but testing still brought up a few issues I could never figure out, so I never uploaded it.
Ironically it appears within 3 reviews someone encountered one of themβ¦

Getting off US tech: a guide
Iβm in the process of dropping US tech services. Hereβs how I did it, and options you should consider.
Silicon Valleyβs alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we canβt depend on US tech companies.
For the past few months, Iβve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!

So much vibe coding going on now, was it too hard for you to copypaste the code you don't understand from stackoverflow, so you had to outsource it to the environment-destroying fakemachine?

Grab Star Quest 1 in the 27th Century on Itch now.
Want a free game? It's from 1995, but it is indeed free!
It's called Star Quest 1 in the 27th Century and even if PC Gamer calls it classic (maybe in the UK?), I've never heard of it before today!

That is at least voluntary for those that want/can to contribute.
Maybe I'm being optimistic, but it could be helping keep the prices of the games in the program down and, longer term, funding their commitment to keep the games working on whatever hardware/OSs we have then.

I do agree that preservation needs to be more than "works on Windows 10/11" though.
My frustration is that many of their games don't work on their native OSs, and I do question if that is actually preservation?

I look at preservation as a collaborative effort.
Museums tend to deal with the "raw materials", developers (usually volunteers) build the tools, and companies like GOG make games available to people. It's all actual work, but GOG choose to cover their overheads as a business.

There's no point training people to use tools that can't answer the questions people are asking.
Train people to answer the questions themselves instead. It'll be more cost-effective and will actually empower people in the process.
