I was glad to register my objections to this planning application and I completely agree with my @oxfordlabour.bsky.social colleague Susanna Pressel.
The Warneford hospital development wants to improve mental health in the county.
Reducing traffic and improving active travel is essential for that.

Clean Air Zone helps contribute to early pollution victory
A new report showed 99 per cent of neighbourhoods in England and Wales had lower air pollution figures.
In East London childrenβs lung growth improved after pollution fell, and in Bradford GP visits dropped 30% and A&E admissions 50% for heart and breathing crises.
Cleaner air saves lives. A reminder why work started in Brum under Cllr Zaffar matters.

Two school kids riding along Talbot Road, approaching a cycle lane closure and a construction lorry
Imagine, letting your kids cycle to school, thinking there's dedicated cycling infrastructure for them use. Only for them to have to negotiate cycle lane closures with no alternatives and construction traffic blocking the way.
Trafford Council should be insisting on better at construction sites.

E-Bikers Ride Much Farther and More Frequently Than Regular Bikers
They are not 'cheating,' but are serious transportation.
What is βthe E-Bike Effect?β
βThose who bought e-bikes increased their average daily bicycle use from 2.1km (1.3 miles) to 9.2km (5.7 miles), a 340% increase. The e-bike share of all their transportation increased dramatically too; from 17% to 49%.β
Fewer car trips.

It is extremely difficult to construct a practical case against this position. Net Zero is now as much about patriotism as it is about climate change.

Cheshire van driver cleared of dangerous driving after four-year-old's death
Four-year-old EsmΓ© Rose Weir was run over as she rode her scooter along the pavement to pre-school.
In the news today, a cyclist on the pavement who killed a man is charged with manslaughter.
By contrast, here's a van driver who killed a little girl. He was driving on the pavement: common, and illegal. Killed her. Only charged with dangerous driving. Fully let off.

Building safer active travel networks that work for women and girls π
Women and girls across the UK continue to miss out on the freedom and wellbeing that active travel can bring, because too many routes still feel unsafe.

Watch out for Zebras on the side roads
Wales could be the first part of the UK to introduce simplified, permanent side road zebra crossings after a statutory instrument was laid before the Senedd in February.
It's another huge benefit for pedestrians from 20mph in Wales as legislation passed today enables councils to install simplified side zebra crossings at junctions where the main and side roads have a 20mph limit.

But rail/bus fare increases have been higher than for motoring so to get the traffic flowing, shouldnβt you be thinking about what we should be incentivising people to do more of? Most people do have a choice in the way they travel, but itβs currently cheaper to drive. Transport strategy??

Delighted to see some of Laura's patch and discuss making roads safer - very positive discussion with some great ideas.
As so often in rural Oxfordshire, I saw the site of a tragic collision where a local child was killed and one where an adult was badly injured. Safe streets affect communities.

Motorists urged to use '20mph is plenty' stickers as lower speed limits dominate roads
Oxfordshire County Council has begun encouraging drivers to purchase free stickers supporting lower speed limits
In an unprecedented move, I'm going to share a GB News story. About Oxfordshire's 275th 20mph zone. And you know what? It's pretty favourable.
When even GB News recognises that people ACTUALLY WANT 20MPH, you know that it's got to be pretty popular.
