SCOTUS has been doing fucked up shit its whole existence.
It's played a huge role in our having 25% of the world's prison pop.
It surprises me people are surprised by recent events. It's always been like this at times
It's the same legal system that has 25% of worlds prisoners, sends people to prison for life over weed, and only is able to convince 3% of sex assault defendants.
Also, for profit prisons and prison labor.
None of that has changed
Well, self checkouts didn't reduce staffing levels in most cases. McDonalds has increased staffing moving people to working the floor providing customer service.
No, it's the result of Congress in many cases.
For example, Army needs some buildings, bids are put out. Company that gave campaign donations gets an inflated contract, part of which is sent as donation for next campaign. The cycle repeats.
It's both but I understand the sentiment.
Contractors who donate to Congress get inflated contracts then part of that money turns into campaign donation which is one reason our military budget is so large.
You should apply logic to everything. Without it, you only see through your perceptions and bias and not truth.
How do you know they are undocumented? Crime nationwide is down 22 to 23 was biggest 1 or drop ever. NYC crime rates are very good compared to years ago.
Why does it matter if they are 3rd world? Does that make them less? Are they not good enough?
It's not millions. Border crossings are at multi decade low. Most undocumented are visa overstay and most have been here for a few yrs or longer.
Of course some have committed violent crimes, some humans do that but they are significantly (by a large margin) less likely to commit a crime than citizens. You don't risk your life walking 100s or 1000s of miles to attract attention of authorities
How do you care about greenhouse gas and slave labor and vote for Trump.
He's going to gut enviro regs and has refused to pay or short paid small businesses, freelancers, and contractors for decades including undocumented immigrants
Also China has 4x as many people as we do so of course their levels are high.
We aren't great on greenhouse gases either and we also have slave labor.
Sigh.
I'm not sharing personal opinions or supporting any of this but facts are facts.
It'd be great if we didn't buy from China but thats not the world we live in.
The only people who have benefitted are Trumps billionaire donors whose stock has gone up or gotten a position in administration they aren't qualified to do.
What's fairly good?
A women who covered up child see abuse leading Dept of Ed, a man with no management exp leading the military, a man with no military exp leading Navy.
People losing jobs, bond prices soaring, mortgage rates up, wage freezes, bonus cancelations, forthcoming price increases.
There are situations where tariffs would lead to domestic production but that's a select portion of industry or product. That's when you use them.
It's not meant to be a blanket application. No one benefits.
The importing company pays. They, of course, pass the expense onto the consumer so it's a sales tax.
Competitors who produce domestically don't just hold pat. If the company being tarrifed goes up 10%, they go up 8% bc they can.
That's not how tariffs work. It's a fine scapel, not a chainsaw. Blanket tariffs screw working class people as it's a sales tax.
Trumps first tariffs lead him to have to provide 28 billion bailout to farmers. It didn't help a single industry. It cost working class people 80 billion.
Plus, our immigration system is broken. We can't process them in a timely manner.
Why do you care if people fill out paperwork anyway? It's a technicality. You have no way to know the difference. People don't wear tags showing status.
Closing borders doesn't allow any immigration.
I thought the bureaucracy was the deep state? Dept of Immigration is a huge bureaucracy. So why would you want immigrants to be processed by deep state? Wouldn't you root their rejection of thr deep state?
Capitalism requires feeding of new labor and growth. Immigration is a key component to capitalism. Our birth rates are down too.
How do you provide new labor to growing economy with declining birth rates with immigration? You cannot.
I didnt pull it out of thin air. Iys known dairy and all agriculture has a large number of undocumented immigrants.
We don't have the workers. Where are you going to replace all those people?
Yes, but it is already impacting prices, people's jobs, people's raises, holiday bonuses, stocks and bonds, mortgage rates and more.
The rock has been thrown. The ripples are rolling.
The cheap Chinese goods are essential to survival and supply chain. You think people can afford $15 toothpaste and $40 toilet paper? 60% increase in auto repairs?
You get made about immigrants while the billionaire class robs you blind. Don't blame poor people for not being able to afford shit.
The cost of groceries went up bc a global pandemic and bird flu.
The Biden administration did more to fight inflation than any administration in history.
Trump cut regulation for food companies contributing to monopolization which increasea prices.
You're not paying for immigrants. They are a huge net benefit for the economy contributing billions in taxes while not taking benefits.
They also fill millions of unwanted jobs in essential industries.
You are not the world. You talk about humanity but you don't consider everyone nor understand the global supply chain. Dairy provides healthful calories, cheap, and a significant % of food.
Do you know how many food products use dairy?
Again, you're acting like we can do without Chinese goods. We cannot. It's the most economical option. People can barely afford that. You think people can afford to pay 10% to 100% more of basic essential goods? Toothbrushes, laundry detergent, etc
Workers in China often are better paid and have more rights than the average US worker despite the propaganda leading us to believe all Chinese live in misery.
There is slave labor but we also have slave labor and sweat shops and prison labor here. Lots of it.
Just bc they are undocumented doesn't make it slave labor. That does happen but many are happy to have a job and build a life. For many, it's all there is.
You act as if dairy products aren't essential to the food chain. Without the dairy industry, you have famine and death.
