Ekko Astral’s Jael Holzman accused former bandmate Miri Tyler of threatening her in a poem shared to social media. Now Tyler, who denies threatening anyone, is under an uncontested peace order.
It’s not the first time acrimony among Ekko Astral has become public. Taylor Ruckle has the story.
"Brontë, however, shines when it’s her lines Robbie and Elordi are reciting. ... Elordi ... begging Cathy 'do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you,' should make you want to grab the nearest copy of the novel and devour Brontë’s words the way these two characters devoured each other."
"Casting a White Heathcliff is like the inverse of The Hunger Games casting (correctly) a Black Rue, which set a subset of (racist) fans on fire. Reading a character incorrectly doesn’t justify erasing characters of color."
"What buoys Fennell’s latest above a failing grade are her stars. Robbie and Elordi ooze charisma and chemistry. ... Watching them together, it’s easy to see why Fennell cast Elordi in the role of Heathcliff, even if it’s not justifiable."
"As with her previous two projects, including Promising Young Woman (killing your leading lady to catch a rapist isn’t empowerment, it’s regressive), Fennell once again goes for shock value. ... this year’s tub drain is a dirty horse bit. Are you not scandalized?"
I had way too much fun writing this review. Some thoughts:
"From Isabella recounting the end of Romeo and Juliet to surrounding Cathy’s father with piles of empty wine bottles, Fennell would rather bash her viewers with (obvious) subtext, rather than let the story speak for itself."
Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights” is horny, pretty, and “has all the subtlety of a heart attack,” writes Sarah Marloff.
“Play with period, absurdity, and fashion all you want," Marloff writes. “The problem with 'Wuthering Heights' is that it can’t decide what it’s trying to be.” Full review:

Oh, so very much yes.
Art has the power to inspire, change minds, and create joy, it’s also undeniably an economic driver. The latest from Jared Strange for Washington City Paper
today the Washington Post laid off hundreds of employees. I can't even imagine what awful impact this will have on DC and the country, but I can tell you that local outlets are here are trying our damndest to survive and hopefully even fill the some of the gaps caused by these layoffs. Help us.
Such a mistake. The arts section in 25 was the best its been in years
“I hope for a world in which predators are punished, not protected; victims are treated with compassion, not shamed; and powerful people face the same consequences as anyone else.” —Virginia Giuffre
"I would have hoped Oscar-nominated directors would be judged for their methods and professionalism as well. This is 2026. We shouldn’t be in a ‘create entertainment at all costs’ environment.” pagesix.com/2026/01/26/h...
"Maybe it is my perspective as a child advocate, but I don’t consider a director who hires a non-union kids off Instagram, skirts safety protections for minors, has a girl do a surprise nude scene, to be stellar."
“It seems Academy members have a very short memory when it comes to the on-set behavior of their ‘best directors...It is troubling that just a few years later Josh Safdie is being honored as a director."
A 5-year-old Minnesota child detained with his father at a Texas immigration facility appeared lethargic during a visit Jan. 28 by members of Congress, who demanded the family’s immediate release and an end to the use of family detention.
Unlikely, but man if all of NATO boycotted the World Cup because of Trump that would make one helluva statement.
Since it looks like former DC Councilmember Vincent Orange will run for mayor, now seems like a good time to reshare this 2022 story from @mitchryals.bsky.social

Just once today I would like for any service, platform, or app I open *not* to immediately prompt me with some AI-based report-generating tool that I do not need and that will not benefit me in any way.
