Posting on behalf of someone in my PGH community who needs help.

big papers, particularly the NYT, just *love* stealing a story idea and re-reporting it without credit

Mr. Isidro Perez was a 75-year-old Cuban man taken into ICE custody on 6/5/25 after being in the U.S. for 60 years. He had two drug possession convictions in the 80βs.
Mr. Perez was hospitalized from 6/17-6/25 and released. He died in ICE custody on June 26th.
Completely senseless.
βICE gets a bigger budget than the Marine Corpsβ is a simple fact that should be communicated very widely because it clearly expresses how crazy and radical this is
Oh no not moved a piece of campus furniture and then put it backβ¦I wonder what other men in leadership were doing back in college???
decided to turn cable news on to see if itβs true and it is: tv anchors really are just interrupting conversations with dems about this bill to ask about zohran mamdani
Chris Murphy: "This is the most deeply immoral piece of legislation I have ever voted on in my entire time in Congress."
Personal stories hit different - if you'd be affected by Medicaid cuts, please call and tell your Senators!
Opinion | The progressive left means well, but they come across as painfully out of touch with reality. Here are some prescriptions for them that I jotted down in the charter gondola on the way to the Bezos wedding.
This is a picture of a phone script for calling a Senator's office. It says: "Hi, I'm [NAME], a constituent from [PLACE]. [If you're leaving a voicemail, be sure to leave your city, state, and zip code!! They simply won't care about your opinion as much if they can't confirm you're a constituent.] I'm calling to urge Senator [NAME] to vote NO on the "Big Beautiful Bill" currently up for consideration in the Senate (, and to please also urge [HIS/HER] colleague Senator [NAME] to do the same.) I have serious concerns about this legislation. The bill cuts Medicaid and SNAP to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy. These cuts will hurt our rural hospitals, and research shows Medicaid work requirements strip coverage from vulnerable people without increasing employment. In fact, CBO just estimated that the bill would cause nearly 12 million Americans to lose their health insurance while adding over $3 trillion to the debt. The bill also shifts Medicaid costs to [YOUR STATE NAME], which could force cuts to services for older adults and people with disabilities. Please urge Senator [NAME] to vote NO. Can you share my concerns with [HIM/HER] and let me know [HIS/HER] position? Thank you."
It's URGENT that we hit the phone lines this weekend re: the "Big, Beautiful" Senate bill, especially if you're a constituent of Sen. Paul (KY), Tillis (NC), Johnson (WI), Collins (ME), or Hawley (MO).
If you aren't sure what to say, I've drafted a script.

Instead of piling on and sharing that op-ed that, for some reason, tries to put a silver lining on Trump's slashing of NIH funding, I'm sharing this @propublica.org piece that more accurately demonstrates the vastness of the damage being done to health research.
βWe canβt do anything,β Caroline Dias Goncalves' relative said. βWeβre scared. Weβre not in jail with her, but we feel like it.β
Her mom hasnβt stopped crying since she learned her daughter was being held and her dad is pacing constantly.
Just gonna leave this here.

The worker sued privately. There were protests at the local Marriott. There were no consequences.
If Gen Z really wants to dunk on millennials, they should learn about Foursquare and go around saying stuff like, "I hear you're the mayor of this Panera Bread."
BREAKING: Trump just waived dozens of our nation's most important enviro laws to wall off the stunning San Rafael Valley, all while border crossings are at their lowest point in decades.

Every 7.5 minutes, an American man thinks about the Roman Empire. Albeit now with an increasingly dreadful sense of recognition.
He and his husband were terrorized by homophobes who murdered him, in case you didn't know, which you very understandably might not given the headlines.

Musk isn't a visionary. He's a dipshit with a lousy sense of risk. Yes, the Sun will steadily brighten and in a billion years or so make it too hot for us to live here, but we're already making it too hot for us to live here right now. And Musk is siding with the people bent on making that worse.
Using court documents to study whether sharing the same leaders make firms more likely to collude finds that collusion increases by a factor of 10 after the arrival of a common board member or executive, from Herrera-Caicedo, Jeffers, and Prager https://www.nber.org/papers/w33866
If we want to prevent the worst possible outcomes of these tools, we need regulatory guardrails yesterday. But with capitalism and global competition for AI dominance, we have a perverse incentives problem. So weβre getting the opposite.
Every article I read lately about AI points to people using it privately, with or without ethical concerns, because of a fear of being left behind the competition.
