I think it might have worked like movie release windows. PS5 was the theater, PC was the DVD release. But that really only works if you keep a steady flow of big new things people care about arriving in the theater.
Worth remembering Biden laid some groundwork for this with the TikTok ban: www.gamesindustry.biz/the-us-is-ba...
Sounds familiar but I don't think it was us, sorry. At least not in the 2005-2012 era when I was there
Some movies with a "Legacy" section on Wikipedia:
Jackass: The Movie
Super Mario Bros. (1993)
Gigli
Howard the Duck
Son of the Mask
Best of luck with everything that comes next, Alex.
If I had a nickel for every AI story where lack of consent was a key part of the story, I would have... many nickels. Just so many nickels.
Amazing disconnect these days between the dismal job market in games (don't think I've ever seen it as bad as it's been the last couple years) and the actual business of games. Circana is projecting record U.S. spending on games in 2026. Lots and lots of money in games, just not for making games.
"Please stop rioting" is one of the best sentences I've ever read.
Is Tokyo Jungle on anything else yet? How could you throw it away?
It may be as much about gating off a "premium" version of the experience that can be charged separately for.
Patent stick figure art (US 12,548,263) of four people in a museum. Beneath them is an image of the same scene, but with an augmented reality overlay naming each piece in the museum and giving it a price.
Just saw this AR patent that reminded me of Jason in The Good Place going through the museum asking Janet how much every piece of art was worth, and now that might get stuck in my head as the target audience for AR glasses.

Is Sodor where Thomas the Tank Engine is set? It sounds like a Lord of the Rings place, and like, one of the bad ones.
That's awful, Mikhail, I'm sorry. Keep your chin up though, I'm confident you'll land on your feet. And from personal experience, I'll say that even if it's not where you had anticipated, it can still be a good thing in the long run.

"Gaming for me is a religion and Haze is the shit!" said Jonathan Davis. "I had to come up with a track that can hit up that kind of rush I get from the game and I think we really rocked it!!"

I think the incredible pain of discussing the systems and economies of these games to outsiders is a significant contributor to the lack of regulations and outrage around them.
This was funny to me, mainly that the check they used to test journos' ethical boundaries was a whopping $200.

Patent art drawing of a woman in jeans and a jacket on a city sidewalk. But the jeans stop abruptly mid-thigh and are replaced by robotic bird legs.
2016 social media post where user angelsguideher says, "I had a dream where I was watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Kylie had gotten cyborg legs like they had taken the legs of an AT-ST from Star Wars and put them on her lower half so she was like 11 feet tall and Kim was like, 'I think Kylie's new legs are SO fun.'" User boag responds, "I literally think about this post every day."
Love it when Context-Free Patent Art followers point out context/references/interpretations I had not considered. Today's was a good one.

I don't think I'll ever come to terms with why we spell "rigour," but lose that "u" for "rigorous."
Image from a trailer for "Can This Love Be Translated?" on Netflix. There's some bold hangul writing in front of a picture of the CN Tower. A road sign says "Gardiner Lane Restrictions."
The thing I love most about K-dramas is how they let me escape to exotic foreign lands with unfamiliar problems.

I just described a game as "Very Problematic, but a part of my childhood" and realized that applied equally well to various music, movies, books, TV shows, DJs, and condiments.
I often wonder how the selling price of games like Giga Wing 2, Xenogears, or Tron Bonne actually weighs into publishers' decisions to not re-release (or remake) them on modern platforms.
This is a bummer. NCSX was my introduction to the world pf gaming beyond my local Best Buy or GameStop. Their daily stock updates were the kind of discoverability tool game devs are begging for these days.
