Canadian REITs set for better real estate returns in 2026, especially in seniors housing Occupancies in Canada’s seniors housing sector are expected to grow due to a ‘persistent imbalance’ in supply and demand, says Hazelview Investments’ global outlook report.
The report noted retirement home chain Chartwell Retirement Residences generated returns of 37.8 per cent. Occupancies in the seniors housing sector are expected to grow and rents are expected to rise due to a “persistent imbalance” in supply and demand, it said, noting Canada’s 80-plus population is projected to grow by nearly 5 per cent through 2042, and new construction starts are “near record lows.”
Listen. I have believed that lack of housing supply has been responsible for rising rents-it makes sense!-but it becomes harder truth to swallow when it’s coming from a REIT that generated returns of nearly 40% on 20,000 seniors homes. What a series of sentences.

Reading my niece’s French books. They’re raising her to be bilingual. But at what cost.
amazing the extent to which certain people encounter the inability to reply to a post and are completely unable to be normal about it

This would be catastrophic. Red alert for housing advocates. This is one of the few bulwarks left in the province for protecting existing affordability. This government refuses to focus on making *new* supply easier beyond bare minimum reforms, and this reads like we're being governed by a REIT.
If there really are a lot of units sitting vacant because landlords don't want to rent them out - and I'm pretty skeptical of that claim - hit them with a vacancy tax. Make it a money loser to hold on to investment properties that no one is living in.
Honestly, look at this shit. When tenants called for an end to LTB delays, they didn't call for an end to justice. That's what Bill 60 does: it eliminates backlogs by eliminating avenues for justice for tenants. When tenants called for an end to eviction loopholes, Ford widened them. Heinous.

Ghadeer, a nurse with Project Hope in Gaza, said: “The number of malnutrition cases has skyrocketed. Two months ago, malnutrition cases did not exceed 50 cases per day. Now, we’re seeing about 200 cases per day. Many of the children we see haven’t eaten real food in weeks – only the nutritional biscuits we distribute. They’re losing weight, becoming withdrawn, and getting sick more easily. We are doing everything we can, but we’re seeing the consequences of extreme hunger in an entire generation. Without more food and aid coming in, I fear for their future.”
This is violence.
A mini shelf full of tea on a bigger shelf that also has some tea on it
For my birthday my friend who is Good At This Stuff is helping me get my apartment organized. Tonight she came over and put together a shelf for my teas.
Punishing encampment residents instead of providing the housing people need costs more than anyone wants to pay — ethically, morally, and fiscally. In Ontario, we can’t afford to import this cruel American approach.

Today, I released a letter, signed by 67 organizations working across Ontario, asking the Ford government to rescind Bill 6. We can't adopt Trumpian policies to punish encampments; people need proven solutions — especially housing. Read our letter: tinyurl.com/EJC-Bill6

"Witches got due process" is why we use the term "witch hunt" to refer to the process of investigating credible allegations of witchcraft, which are then advanced as charges only if and when there is sufficient evidence to charge and a public interest in their prosecution and/or burning.

How many women are trapped in abusive dynamics they can’t afford to leave? Investing in affordable housing—real, meaningful affordable housing—will do far more to reduce domestic violence than whatever this is
As a woman, I do not want to be invoked to justify consecutive life sentences that let people die in prison without any chance of redemption. You want to make me safer? Tackle the root causes of misogyny and violence. Start within your own ranks, pundits, and supporters.
My cynical take is that nobody listened because it was Toronto and people enjoy Toronto getting hit with crap. But all of Ontario is paying billions, and it's their Ontario Place too (and their Science Centre, and their Greenbelt and...).
