AOC: I saw on Fox, Jeanine Pirro says that they found so many babies and two year olds and four year olds receiving social security. I got a notice for you Jeanine Pirro: those babies receive social security because their parents died. That’s not a waste. That’s humanity. That’s America.

It’s funny Zuck says “I started building social media to give people a voice” when in fact, he started building social media to publicly rate the hotness of undergrads.

My mom had health insurance. She still couldn't afford the medication to save her life. | Opinion My mother had health insurance, but the profit-driven insurance industry failed her. She couldn't afford the asthma treatment she needed.

Heading into the new year knowing health insurers can do better for our patients…

Sharing a powerful op-ed by a friend & collaborator, whose life was upended at age 16 when their mother died unnecessarily from asthma bc she couldn’t afford treatment… #MedSky

The system masquerading as health care where you are is mystifying. I just need the ID number off the card, and to verify the billing address. Most electronic health records verify coverage digitally in real time. I can't grok what's going on there ...

As an independent family doc making $50 per office visit, as compared to the $500+ per office visit that my colleagues at the hospital-owned practice down the road make, I am already doing this. We need the patients to understand where the money is going (hospital admins, insurance CEOs, PBMs, etc)

As a doctor, I find this concerning. S/he can't order imaging or physical therapy to get you onto the next steps? What are they hoping the ER will be able to do for you? (Usually, the ER will eval, give you meds, and have you follow up with a doc for the therapy and imaging, so... I'm concerned.)

Pharmacies have become so much less dependable in the past decade. Here's a great synopsis on why.

We have perhaps overused "your insurance won't cover this without X diagnosis" to our own detriment. Now have folks with a BMI of 24 wanting Ozempic, as well as men trying to fill 30 tablets per month of BOTH tadalafil and sildenafil, thinking there are no barriers, because they are paying cash.

Today, the alcoholic patient, who seems skeptical that his prolonged stay in the hospital was truly due to the complication of withdrawal: "They asked me how many drinks I have per day, and I told them I don't have drinks, because I don't drink hard liquor." Total beers per day? Eighteen.

Paradoxical productivity: weeks of failing to concentrate on charting and results during hours set aside at a desk to do so, followed by a weekend on the couch with cold symptoms successfully carving away huge chunks of the inbox. No idea why sick me is more productive than well me.

Just a reminder that there’s an app available for your TV called PBS RETRO where you can watch all sorts of wonderful old pbs shows like Mr. Rogers and Reading Rainbow, you know, in case you might need that sort of energy right now

Watched the entirety of "A Man on the Inside" on Netflix yesterday. Hits all the right emotional beats--sweet and funny. Definitely a nice short series to curl up with for an afternoon.

This. This is the phenomenon that is polarizing the world and breaking so many things. Guy who knows all about internet content creation and has curiosity about science and how things look explains our political and cultural moment. I love this adorkable, earnest man.

Absolutely. I gave up almost all of my political intake immediately after the election. I've reintroduced The Bulwark, The Daily Show, and Seth Meyers. Can't watch the Pod Save bros yet, and my son still can't work up to watching Colbert. Too emotional, need a moment.

I'm another "followed you from LJ," where I stumbled across your following in a time when I was young and very ignorant of the world around me. Intelligent people who challenge you are valuable, so I valued you, and I look you up when I take my social media presence elsewhere.

It’s strange to think about how COVID probably saved us from the worst of Trump then, but the deft management of its aftereffects stuck us with Trump now.

Future generations won’t even understand the concept of a just world fallacy.

@seananmcguire.bsky.social , @catvalente.bsky.social , and @tkingfisher.com are the best examples. I re-add @karnythia.bsky.social , too, because she challenged me when I was young, sheltered, and stupid. I still miss the format of Live journal; it gave me writers to treasure.
