A closeup photo of a frog staring directly at the camera. It has light brown back and sides, a wide mouth, and a whitish chin. Its eyes are dark but rimmed with gold. Its front legs are submerged in water, and there are some green pond plants in front of it.

An infographic titled β€œNest Boxes for Robins & Wrens” shows a wooden open-front nest box positioned in dense vegetation. An inset image of a Robin highlights one of the species that benefit. The text advises placing open-front boxes low to the ground (no higher than 2m) and in well-hidden, sheltered locations to provide protection from predators.

This #NationalNestboxWeek, remember not all birds nest the same way!

Here's a few options to get you started...

Robins and Wrens like to keep hidden, tucking their nests away in dense cover.

An open-fronted box placed low down and out of sight is just their style.

Education Group - ANHSO Education Group We started our identification courses with a pilot basic course in 2002. Following on that success we have expanded our programme and hope to expand it more. We have found that there is a great demand for our special offering, a rigorous, scientific approach to species identification...

Want to improve your botanical identification skills and confidence? Try one of the Ashmolean Natural History Society of Oxfordshire #Plant #Identification courses this year:

In the centre of the photo two small cup shaped fungi one above the other. The insides are a rich deep red colour, while the outsides are a paler orange colour. They're growing among leaf litter with chips of old decaying wood and a few blades of green grass.

Delighted to spot our first Scarlet Elf cup (Sarcoscypha austriaca) fungi of the season in the fen this morning. Here's two of around a dozen we found.

At TVERC, this includes work supporting Local Wildlife Sites, where species records and habitat data help identify areas most in need of protection and manage them for recovery, turning evidence into action on the ground.

Adults stay hidden too, which makes sightings rare. Winter is the perfect time to look for their eggs. Once you know the signs, they suddenly appear everywhere.

Understanding where they lay helps us protect important blackthorn habitats and support this species.

Our team has recently been out in the field conducting Brown Hairstreak Butterfly surveys, a fascinating and elusive species!
Β
Females lay tiny white eggs on young blackthorn shoots, and the caterpillars are so well camouflaged they’re almost impossible to spot.
