Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. Itβs always a matter of will not resources.

The Witch's Heart was really good. I have some background knowledge of Norse mythology so that helped. I'll definitely look for @gengornichec.bsky.social to read π

Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
Starting out 2026 with this novel from 2021 that's been on my TBR for at least 3 years (I was so interested in it, I inadvertently bought 2 copies of it at least six months apart). I'm about halfway through it and it's very good. #booksky @rykaaoki.bsky.social

A hardcover copy of the book North is the Night by Emily Rath.
Just finished this gorgeous wintery book and I'm so happy to report that the story inside was as beautiful as the outside details (truly, just stunning). Cannot wait for the sequel!

Things in my household have gotten really tight and those SNAP benefits would really help.
We do have health insurance through work and don't need to use the ACA.
Hold the line.

A mother's lament:
Hello dinner, my old friend
I sit to eat you once again.
While my children are bed-prepping
And the kitchen I'm done cleaning
And this food has gotten cold.
This routine's old
But still I eat
My dinner.

The problem isnβt refugees on boats. The problem is oligarchs hoarding obscene amounts of wealth while most people fight to stay afloat.
Wages aren't tied to inflation, so the working class keeps falling behind no matter how hard they work.

Note that .word programs (the new ones) are preprogrammed to harvest what you type. Hunt down the privacy settings and say no, take a screenshot to verify and be wary.
Steal first, ask permission later. Sound familiar? It is the mantra of the super rich.

Itβs Time for Americans to Start Talking About βSoft Secessionβ
Blue states are finally learning what red states have known all along: you donβt need federal permission to govern.
"Twenty-three Democratic attorneys general now gather on near-daily Zoom calls at 8 AM Pacific, which means the East Coast officials are already on their third coffee. They divide responsibilities and share templates for lawsuits theyβve been drafting since last spring."

A shitty map created by ChatGPT5. it purports to be US States with an R in their name, but it's wrong and dumb and worthless just like LLMs.
My goto is to ask LLMs how many states have R in their name. They always fail. GPT 5 included Indiana, Illinois, and Texas in its list. It then asked me if I wanted an alphabetical highlighted map. Sure, why not.

what ferritor needed was moral education β and the limits and boundaries that come with it. he needed to learn that he had obligations beyond his own interests & personal advancement. he needed to learn that he had duties to other people. his parents fostered his brilliance at the expense of a soul.
