Cross posting from the other place: for anyone planning a UK camping trip without a car, I have updated my map of campsites sorted by distance from train stations. Campsites are from pitchup.com, so should be more up-to-date than before felt.com/map/Rail-Hik...
@netwench.bsky.social thank you so much for leading the amazing Hackney Feeder ride, along with volunteer marshals from @hackneylcc.bsky.social and @hoxtonrich.bsky.social @microlambert.bsky.social and others! 👏
Thanks - not sure about pedestrian levels, there’s no crossing currently. We’ve noticed drivers are more likely to stop if they come to the zebra crossing first, so the double design means they always do
(The alternative is a single two-way crossing, but then cyclists going in one direction need to veer across the lane to join it)
No banned turns - so maybe you’d need a car’s length offset of the crossings?
Question: could you do a cycle crossing like this, with two parallel parallel crossings? Would be nice to have cycle lanes on the main road too, but that’s for another day. This is just to get a cycle route across the main road
We're in our monthly meeting discussing the Women's Freedom After Dark report, which finds nearly a 1/4 of the total length of TfL’s cycle network is ‘socially unsafe’ after dark.
👀Take a look at the map & tell us if you think there's any missed stretches in Hackney.

NEW: Car manufacturers want to hide the truth about their dirty diesel emissions. Along with MPs, over 50 major charities & organisations and hundreds of individuals, we demand court documents are made public. #Dieselgate #AirPollution
Huge thanks to all who supported this analysis & action - incl the hundreds that signed the open letter & everyone who came to the High Court. @alexbigham.bsky.social @ellarobertafdn.bsky.social @asthmaandlung.org.uk @ukhealthclimate.bsky.social @microlambert.bsky.social

That’s the way to do do it. Not half-arsing it with cameras that are only going to get vandalised
Might be the time of day, but I’d say 4 times out of 5 I’m able to get across there without stopping. Otherwise, slowly nosing out seems to stop most drivers. It definitely works better than I feared from comments on twitter

"Of the extensive space reclaimed from cars, you can see with your own eyes that pedestrians get all of it, and cyclists get next to nothing"
Have you seen detailed plans for Westfield Ave? I couldn’t find them on the link
Do you have thoughts about what the market area should look like in an LTN? I have a sense of the solution for the route of C1, but much less so here
So overtaking cyclists is basically impossible? I guess that’s consistent with the design speed of the street (as long as drivers agree)

The bit about pedestrians needing to use "multiple crossings across roads and cycle lanes" as a reason to not put in protection for cyclists is very revealing. It treats crossing a road and cycle lane as though they are functionally equivalent.
Nice to see some faces here I realise I hadn’t seen since they dropped off Twitter. Is this what it feels like to arrive in the afterlife?
