White words on a black background read:

50+
Immigration agents have the authority to detain whom they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. We found more than 50 Americans who were held after agents questioned their citizenship. They were almost all Latino.

~130
Agents also can arrest citizens who allegedly interfered with or assaulted officers. We compiled cases of about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, accused of assaulting or impeding officers.

~20
Among the citizens detained are nearly 20 children, including two with cancer.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

I saw a bumper sticker that said "Make tea, not war", and what a wild ride they are in for when they learn literally any
fact about tea.

Inside Israel's destruction of Baalbek's iconic Palymra Hotel Weeks after Israel's strike, Baalbek's historic Palmyra Hotel, which had withstood Lebanon's 15-year civil war and countless crises, now lies in ruins

Why did Israel bomb the 150-year-old Palymra Hotel next to the ruins of Baalbek? Why did it destroy a centuries-old Ottoman-era building nearby?

These historic sites are central to Lebanese tourism. These are attacks on people's livelihoods, and on heritage itself. www.reuters.com/world/middle...

Police didn’t believe a 12-year-old who said she'd been raped. Then she hit record. β€œIf I didn’t find the evidence for them, I wasn’t too sure they would find it.”

1/ Since our story with PBS NewsHour came out last month, comments flooded into Polk County Sheriff’s social feed demanding consequences for Det. Melissa Turnage, who sought criminal charges against Taylor Cadle for lying. We recently learned she was disciplined after we started asking questions.

Trump Plans Tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico That Could Cripple Trade The president-elect said that he would impose the across-the-board tariffs on Day 1 and that they would stay in place until Canada, Mexico and China halted the flow of drugs and migrants.

So, to everyone who thought the Bessent pick meant that Trump would be reasonable on economic policy: I hope you enjoyed your vacation from reality 1/ www.nytimes.com/2024/11/25/b...

This is the ultimate outcome of almost all social media. You make stuff, grow a following, the network gets paid. It’s not just Elon, it’s Reddit, Instagram, and really most of the internet users now consume.

Not often that I agree with Noah, but this is right (as we know from a lot of political research). People decide who they like, then retcon reasons to support them.

Democrats had a great message on Project 2025. It was so deeply unpopular that Trump had to deny any connection.

Now that Trump has said he plans to hire key figures from Project 2025 for his administration, Democrats need to sound the alarm. It will still be unpopular.

For those who aren’t aware, labor rights were earned in this country in literal wars in the streets between unions and private corporate armies working hand-in-hand with US soldiers.

If you didn’t realize it already, the wealth class is seeking to turn back the clock.

I’ve noticed a lot of stories and media outlets, even @npr.org seem to be putting out lots of β€œunity content”. Lots of β€œput your politics aside for the holidays”, lots of β€œfind common ground.” I’m sorry, but no. I know my worth & if your politics don’t find me worthy, you can fuck all the way off.

Really the problem is the government workers are too few: The government is not allowed to pay competitive salaries in many cases, so instead the employees are hired by contractors who can pay and, because the contractor gets their cut, grossly increases the cost over just hiring people directly.

Florida health official advises communities to stop adding fluoride to drinking water Florida's surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, cited developmental concerns from higher levels of fluoride than are found in most U.S. water supplies.

Fluoridated water
1)Reduces tooth decay by ~25% in kids and adults.
2) For every $1 spent, communities save up to $38 in dental costs.
3) Benefits everyone, regardless of income or access to dental care.
4) Over 75 years of research shows it’s effective and harmless.

Focus groups suggest people couldn't believe Trump was going to do all the horrible things Project 2025 and he have said they would do.

There's a lot to blame of Dems. But people also looked to the media and said, "Well, they're sure acting like he's a normal candidate."

I can't tell you how much transphobia rests entirely on trans-misogyny. These people can't every comprehend trans men, it literally breaks their brain like Ben Shapiro in that debate.

Having burly, bearded trans men use the women's restroom in the Capitol would highlight the absurdity of the rule.

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s β€œgood” or β€œbad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
