I used to have to same question until it was explained to me by a rental agent. The reason is - if the car is rented one way, say from KC to Chicago and then turned back in to the rental company, both keys are with the car and the rental company is not left shipping extra keys all over the country.
Even though a vast majority of materials my company uses are American made, my suppliers are already raising prices on EVERYTHING to offset the items they sell that aren’t American made. So my prices are going up. Blame Trumpflation.
