We give too much of ourselves away. I challenged myself to find out as much as I could about 10 people I haven't seen in over 30 years and within an hour I knew where they all lived, their marital status, how many kids they had, where they worked, and for most, their political beliefs.
Also you may even have had people who cared enough to have reported you missing had they known you were missing.
Often times families cared very much but the person was nomadic, or there'd been a fight, or they thought they'd just fucked them off :(
