damn Bugs

Part of that might be my fault, I took a few weeks off from reading the book during the holidays. But, overall I found that this book stands in the shadow of it's predecessor The God is Not Willing, which i found both more interesting and more affecting.

Still I look forward to the next book!

assassin mages, and enigmatic strangers who seem to know a lot more about what's going on than we do, but it doesnt do a great job of getting into the heads of our point of view characters (with the exception of the excellent Bornu Blatt) and helping us understand why they're acting over the story.

No Life Forsaken by Steven Erikson

I'm usually a huge enjoyer of Erikson's work but this book might be a miss for me. I love the concept of returning to Seven Cities a decade after the Whirlwind Rebellion was defeated by Tavore, but I felt underwhelmed by the novel itself. The book has elder gods..

I love the way that magic works in this novel. How it reinforces the themes and conflicts of the setting. I love the way that queer lives and queer love are unremarkable. I love this book

So I will take this opportunity to jump on my soapbox and say READ THIS BOOK. It's nothing like Murderbot, but it's really really good. It features a found family of queer immortals working together to root out the conspiracy that's trying to take over the alliance they helped to build 60 years ago
