Well that’s why he ends up becoming a villain in the end, in fact a lot of weird shit ends up happening because everyone misinterprets her message of a “world without borders” and thinks “oh I should make an army without borders and participate in a war economy that’ll facilitate that”

If anything it’s a stark commentary and subversion on the trope of “heroic sacrifice” that ppl like to glorify in war stories where in this case the hero not only sacrifices their life but their legacy and any chance to be mourned in the way they deserve

Not that they “need” to die but that there will always be at least a ting of sadness, guilt, remorse and tragedy no matter how “evil” someone is

I mean, that’s what Naked Snake has been constantly thinking about since he killed her and it’s eaten away at him his entire life

I don’t get the impression their deaths are “needed” when sad music plays and they monologue about their tragic backstories before dying

Stuff like The Boss in MGS3 is so tragic BECAUSE you’re forced to kill her and she was planning to die and taint her legacy to save the world
