Iβd love it. Dim lights, candles until the sun rises.

"Canadian Word of the Year" on a red banner. Beneath the banner reads "maplewashing" and "the deceptive practice of making things look more Canadian than they actually are"
And the results are in! After carefully reviewing the results of a national poll the Board of Directors of the Society for Canadian English (SCE) has determined that this yearβs Canadian Word of the Year (CWOTY), the first of its kind, will be βmaplewashing.β
Ayup. So much for my two downtown errands this weekend. Not feeling up to driving, or streetcar+walking alternatives. #grumpgrump #toronot
And the Toronto Public Library too.
My subway station exit is glorious. #toronto #cedarvale #ravine
And everything was beautiful at the balletβ¦
$12 standing only tickets are the best deal in #toronto #nationalballet
Enjoying the newly renovated Wychwood library balcony (overlooking lawn bowls and a park) reading print magazines. An OG Saturday morning after errands and market. #toronto
A city the current provincial government is doing its level best to destroy. This is by design
A freshly picked Macoun, of course. But the first apple of the season is memorable. And a crisp russet near the end of season.
Summer, maybe ? But 2025
I love having a stash of beautiful Canada Post stamps. Sadly, itβs probably time to use them up along with my postcard collection.
Thanksgiving Monday stroll #cedarvale #ravine
We rarely have any bikes around St Clair West and Spadina. Would be nice to have more staff moving bikes around, and more bikes.
Found some today, one for now and two for storage aka my crisper drawer. Curious to see if the taste improves.
Ate 6-7 Honeycrisp over the past two weeks, a thoughtful gift as Iβd never have chosen them. Sugar bombs, for sure.

A photo of the truck, not of me tripping over the dog and our bins, recycling !
Spent good part of last winter in Hackney (east London). The councilβs garbage removal was a civilised affair, w/ quiet, smaller, nimble (electric?) truck and regulars who greeted me w/ a friendly nod after my first clumsy rush to get everything curbside w/ dog in tow. Regret not getting a photo.
Hands at side, please. Canadians need a refresher on anthem etiquette (as does Carneyβs UK born wife). None of this phoney, performative patriotic hand-on-heart nonsense. I blame the distasteful Lich et al (i.e., honking convoy lowlifes). π¨π¦ #ocanada

Isnβt it ? Next theyβll kill the magical spaceship pool building.
Walked by 400 Walmer to see theyβve removed at least one fountain :(
Toronto pool culture and swimming accessibility is a hot mess. The developer may be at fault in the Pinnacle instance, but the city bears equal responsibility for the poor maintenance, unenforced standards across the board. www.thestar.com/news/gta/dev...

I admire all of @thelocal.to reporting, and this piece on Woodbine racetrack is a banger. I love horse racing, even though it's a pretty dark sport. @nickhunebrown.bsky.social confronts the darkness, the economics, and the doomy shadow over the backstretch. Great writing too!
In hindsight, I believe it was a mistake to allow Sunday shopping. No common day to βpauseβ. I bristled under it as a teen but it made for a lovely day.

Gaslighting happens to those disturbed by noise. Weβre told βitβs not that badβ or βyouβre too sensitive.β Noβweβre not. Noise harms everyone, even those who donβt notice.
Letβs build better soundscapesβfor all. ππ±

Maybe itβs time the rotating cast of sponsors (Rogers, Sobeys, National Bank) took on the task of dignifying their role. The Canadian Open (yes, letβs call it what it is) is one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world. And likely the only one where fans have to endure reeking porta-potties.
Hold on a minute Ms DiManno. I spent a fabulous Thursday watching matches on side courts. Took in the top two doubles teams in the world, and a super fun Ben Shelton doubles show. $45, plus TTC fare (which should have been free, as per Montreal). www.thestar.com/sports/tenni...
