A photograph, in burnt-orange colour tones, of a maple leaf with a heart-shaped hole forms the background of a square image. 19 book covers are arranged in a pyramid shape down the right-hand side and across the bottom. To the left, white text in an arc says "Hidden Gems!" Below that more white text reads: "19 books by Canadian authors you may never have heard of (but will totally wonder how your bookshelves lived without!)" At the top of the pyramid of covers, to the right, it provides the date of the promo: March 1st to 15th, only on Itchi.io. The books involved are as follows, from the top of the pyramid and then down, from left to right: The Lion The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle The Dragon Next Door River of Crows Hope is the Thing with Feathers The Clockwork Empire Flesh and Bone Goblin Girl Moonshadow's Guardian Your Blood and Bones Winner Takes All The Flaws of Gravity Scrap Metal Angel Destined to be Normal Clipped Bloody Spade Baker Thief Path of the Warrior Prince Ewald the Brave

βNo front-page stories in NYT, WSJ, WaPo. No mention on NBC and CBS Sunday Shows. No stand alone segments on Evening News shows. A death count on par with the OKC bombing is relegated to the back page.β www.columnblog.com/p/corporate-...
Graphic that reads "Outstanding natural science picture books!" and shows the cover of This Wolf Was Different by Katie Slivensky and Hannah Salyer, featuring a close up of a wolf with a human reflected in her eyes, and the caption above that reads "The New York Public Library Best Books of 2024" and also the cover of I, Rock: A Geology Tale by Katie Slivensky and Steph Stilwell, which shows a cartoon rock with googly eyes sitting on a cross section of the ground, with the caption above that reads, "SLJ Best Book of 2025".
Okay, just got my sales figures (authors get reports twice a year), and could really use some help boosting the sales numbers for my picture books (illustrators Hannah Salyer and Steph Stilwell). They are no where near earning out. π
Perfect for science kiddos! #KidLit

I am done with this whole winter scam. I just desperately want to put my beloved patio swing out and DO GARDEN THINGS. π£
Woooow... this is wild. π
I'm still buried in snow. There is a patch of patio I can see and I keep hoping it will grow. I need to prune my apple trees, but they are still buried in a snowbank right now.
Everyone overslept this morning and it feels like the most Monday-ish Thursday ever.
Also, there is *more snow* in the long-term forecast. π£
I remember this! Watched it all the time.
βFar too often impunity prevails... when justice fails women and girls, the damage goes far beyond any single story, any single woman's life. Communities lose faith, public trust erodes and justice institutions lose legitimacyβ.
I just opened up Bluesky and this was the first thing I saw and it literally made me snort-laugh. So thanks for that moment of much-needed levity in *waves hands around wildly* all of this. π
Psst... need a lunch time read today? Check out our awesome Itchio bundle! π¦π
Technocapitalistsβ great trick is to make people who hate all this bullshit feel like theyβre suffering from the same fogeys-not-coping-with-a-changing-world syndrome every generation succumbs to, rather than, say, just rejecting a rampant evil that seeks to rob us of our individuality and soul.
I don't want "smart" appliances, I want dumb appliances. Appliances that that plug into the wall and nothing else. Appliances that don't need subscriptions or accounts. Appliances that do just what they were originally intended to do, w/out feeding my life data into a massive surveillance pipeline.
This is one of my biggest pet peeves. There is ZERO reason why a machine that SHOULD BE COMPLETELY MECHANICAL needs to be connected to the Internet.
Here's a bit more about Chalice of Caladriai. This was one of the harder ones in the series to write, but I was really happy with the way it all came together. If you're eligible to nominate books for this year's Aurora Awards, I would be so grateful if you would consider this one. π #BookSky

And, in Canada, TWO MONTHS AGO -- JANUARY 2026 -- 45% of people admitted to hospitals *for other things* ended up getting infected with COVID while there! It's unconscionable that we just accept this. Nobody should be getting sicker because they had to go to the hospital. π‘
And people wonder why I hate using my phone and flat-out refuse to use most apps.
Oh no. I'm so sorry, Katie. :(
The ultimate plan is for a very large percentage of us to *die*. And for the rest to be relegated to crushing, dehumanizing poverty & pervasive 24/7 surveillance, so desperate for any scrap we can get that we'll take any job & do anything asked of us if it staves of starvation for another day.

"Work longer hours, you wretches! Produce more! I don't care if you're sick or if your kid has cancer! What do you mean you expected to get paid enough to pay rent AND buy groceries?! It's EXACTLY this type of GREED that undermines the proper functioning of society!"
I mean, I hate the "productivity" thing b/c it feels like politicians telling average Canadians that the reason everything sucks is because we miserable peons aren't working long enough or hard enough to line the pockets of our corporate overlords fast enough.
I hate the conversation about βproductivityβ because no one ever explains what it actually means or what they are talking about.
This is a fantastic explainer.
"Any suggestion that we need a wealth tax is immediately rejected on the grounds that the super-rich will leave and take their wealth with them. But not so fast. Hereβs an important but little-known fact: Canada has an exit tax."
"Furthermore...the members of this ultra-privileged elite are able to largely avoid paying income taxes. While Canadians at almost every income level pay a substantial portion of their incomes in tax, billionaires do not. The income tax is not an effective tool for taxing them."
