Giving people just 30 months leave to remain makes it impossible to get on with your life and plan for the future. Young people need safety and stability to survive and thrive, not punitive and unworkable policies that make life worse for everyone.

Through the external evaluation, we heard directly from young people about what our support means to them. For many, Young Roots is the only place where they can access this combination of practical help, trusted relationships and fun activities in one space.

One young person told us:

“The workshop made me excited because before I had no confidence, but now I do.”
Together, we’re creating spaces where young people can build skills, express themselves and connect with each other.

This partnership was only made possible through the Croydon Loves You grant from Croydon Council, whose support is helping us create more opportunities for young people to learn, connect and grow.

We’re proud to be working with Kazzum Arts to bring confidence-building Creative ESOL sessions to young people at our Croydon hub. The sessions are full of creative activities using imagery, writing and interactive exercises.

Every stakeholder spoken to strongly agreed that our support helps young people improve their mental health and wellbeing. It’s a reminder of how vital consistent, trusted support is for young people seeking safety. We’re deeply grateful to our partners and supporters for standing alongside us.

As part of our external evaluation, partners and supporters shared powerful reflections about our work. One of the key findings was that Young Roots has delivered an “exemplary and sector-leading service.”

Children's safety should never come second to politics. We have seen first-hand the harm that age assessments can cause - and we do not believe that the National Age Assessment Board (part of the Home Office) can act independently.
