As a result, Ed "Lou Grant" Asner won Emmies as Best Support in a Comedy Series *and* Best Lead Actor in a Drama, playing the same character, which I think was the first time that that's happened.

Lou Grant - started as standard comedy grouchy but loveable boss foil to Mary Tyler Moore on her eponymous show, barely keeping his staff of whacky characters in line, then spun off to his own drama series which dealt with serious issues.
I'm glad that someone has finally had the guts to call him out - he's got away with it for too long...!
In a similar vein, I was just saying to my boss yesterday that the Count of Monte Cristo was likewise a jerk...
Hey - cool! I'm in The Beatles!!

Today is the birthday of George Reeves (Jan. 5, 1914-June 16, 1959). Actor, director, and my first Superman.

And Merry Christmas to you too!
The following year humans walked on the Moon. Around twenty years later, Voyager would send us the Pale Blue Dot image, our world, but now seen from the cold, distant edge of our solar system, barely a pixel, floating in a sunbeam.
No wonder I grew up a space geek...
The Earth rising above the Lunar surface, the first time viewed by a human being, our world a vibrant blue glow in the velvet blackness of space.
#Christmas Eve, 1968. Three humans are further from home than anyone in our entire history.
As the crew of Apollo 8 rounded the dark side of the Moon, they saw a sight never seen by human eyes before: Earthrise.

UK is VERY familiar with this song this time of year, but not sure the rest of the world is as aware of the greatest Christmas track of all timeโฆ
Youโre welcome!

Where does Derek Jacobi's marvelous turn in "One Clavdivs" fit in...?
I happen to share a birthday with the great Rosemary Sutcliff, born 105 years ago today. Her historical fiction books (largely what we'd now call YA) are wonderful, spotlighting life in Britain from the stone age onwards, with a lot of emphasis on Roman and Sub-Roman. 1/2

imho, this would only have validity if she'd tried being an artist herself. she did not try.
There ain't no prison bars that can withstand his ol' bamboo...
And now he knows that you know, he will hunt you down...
"Emil and the Detectives" by Erich Kรคstner has beautiful original period illustrations by Walter Trier, which seem to have been replaced by modern ones by other artist (or at least the cover has been replaced), in spite of the Trier ones being in the public domain, as he died in 1952...
Looks like an ill-advised "Last of the Summer Wine" recasting...
The A.B.C. cinema on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow once had a marquee listing, which read:
Stop or My Mother Will Shoot

I consider myself a Wally Wood fan (with several originals of my own) but... I didn't know about this. Apparently in the early 60's Wally pitched a Sunday newspaper strip showcasing famous people, and made up some presentation pieces, like this one.
Wow! Love the space art!
Even that tech worker has made a rookie error: never leave weapons in reach of your potentially sentient printer...!

For some reason that link triggers security warnings on Safari, so I just googled real quick and found a second article covering the research paper.

British and Australian chemists have discovered a powerful new antibiotic called pre-methylenomycin C lactone, hiding in a well-known soil bacterium. This molecule kills drug-resistant bacteria without triggering resistance. buff.ly/YlXaONo

Iโm wondering if any childrenโs publishers need a freelance writer to write reading scheme books for them or branded picture books etc? Iโve written reading scheme books for Star Wars and Disney before! Any shares would be amazing!

The original French theme is an instrumental dirge of a march, especially when compared to the British alternative - can't begin to imagine what that might sound like interpreted by Johnny Halliday... I imagine YouTube might be able to provide an answer...
Our tiny little tabby cat, Willow, curled up on a cream striped knitted blanket on the arm of the sofa. She's lying on my glasses, they're lens down, arms up, so the arms are on either side of her front legs.
I can't find my glasses.
